Re: 2wd truck ramp slip fix?
I pull a Black Thunder SC430 with a 97 Chevy 2WD crew cab. I have found that the following ramp actions help a lot. Try to go into the water as far to the left as possible. Make sure it is as dry as possible and deep enough that the trailer tires do not go off the end of the ramp. Pull out at an oblique angle to the right. Use low gear. Feather the throttle as if you have an egg under the pedal. The oblique angle helps to load the right rear tire. Also carry a tow strap or chain. Never spin the tires. Some times it helps if the boat helps to push the truck up the ramp until the props come out of the water. Joe Murray

Traction Aids will do it, don't laugh - they work. Every Camaro in Canada has a set in the trunk from November to April. You'd probably only need 10 or 12 sets in a row ;) |
Re: 2wd truck ramp slip fix?
Low gear on an automatic transmission is the same in D or 1 or 2 or 3. It is an AUTOMATIC it starts in 1st and shifts its way up. Putting it in "low" gear won't do a thing.
Get lots of weight in the rear end and hope the ramp is dry and has a shallow angle. I tried a 2wd truck for most of the season and finally gave up on it and bought a 4wd. Lowering air pressure worked good if the ramp was dry, but if it was wet it just did not come out without a little help from another truck. I also tried it with a dually and that didn't help either. One thing that got me out was turning the floor mats upside down on the ramp................... they kept me from falling on my a$$. :D |
Re: 2wd truck ramp slip fix?
The manual valve does exist in an automatic transmission, and allows the driver to pick the clutch pack which decides the gear ratio. The idea is to prevent wheel spin, raising the gear ratio and engaging some extra resistance on the drive wheel/s with the emergency brake will both help avoid wheel spin.

Re: 2wd truck ramp slip fix?
invest in a 4wd or you can do like the 2wd drive trucks here and roast the tires all the way up the launch lol

Re: 2wd truck ramp slip fix?
Put the boat on the trailer then tie down the nose. Then use the boat to push the truck up the ramp. When your props hit air you should be able to go the rest of the way. I have seen it done many times in KW.
