The towing capacity on these rigs is rated for 12,000lbs because of the hitch. The Duramax could pull your house around your town with you in it. I upgraded to this. Up to 16000lbs towing capacity.... Enough for you sweatheart. Talk to you tomorrow, I'm sure its past your bedtime.....

I don't get this whole thing of "I can't afford a big rig to pull my boat" business. I have said it on the other thread about pulling big boats. I have a 25 checkmate and tow it 600 miles twice a year with my suburban and want to upgrade to a dually. Seeing these truck and boat set-ups is like someone putting alphas on 1 of these boats with twin 600hp motors. Yet I don't see anyone doing that because that would break down on them and ruin "their" day, yet they will overlaod the tow vehicle and potentially ruin the day's of a lot of people including their families and other families on the road they happen to crash on (God Forbid) if something were to go wrong

GeeterB,
Exactly. I'm fairly new to the big boat world. Boats before were 17 Alum duck hunting boat and the other was a 24 ft Seebold Eagle pulled with a 93 Sub 4wd. No real issues when pulling the huntin boat but hook up to the Eagle you knew it was back their and it was well within the limits of the TR. Now with our new 29 beak boat the 93 Surb had to go, even thou it was in the TR limits. Just upgraded to an 05 Exc 4 wd PSD but I have not pulled anything yet but looking forward to it.

I say if you can afford the boat you can afford the correct vehicle to tow it. Why do I want to risk my family or others for that matter just to save a few bucks. :( It does not have to be new. Buy a good older vehicle that is capable of handling the job correctly. Even if its for a few trips a year.

By some of the readings I have seen on this post I hope a few of them Start a thread to let everyone know when they plan on driving their rigs out there. Some of us may not be getting on the road cause we don't want to be around yea's. Nothing personal we just don't want to be a statistic because someone did not follow some sort of Eng standard. These numbers are just a guess / recommendation, right?

Just my .02

Remember one thing, some of you could make it real easy for some lawyer/ victim to cash in at YOUR Expense, if your over the rating, PERIOD.

Sorry for being long winded and I'll get off my soapbox. :D

Whoa, what are you talking about. I never favored one rig or slammed another. The fact is, if its over rated it is over rated. That is the facts. Now as far as the Exc not pulling your buddies Tiger well it sounds like he did not do enough research before he either bought the truck or bought the boat. Because everyone I talked too if you go 38' and over and pull it long haul ( NY to Miami) you want a dually. Just think and you were ignorant enough to get in with him. :eureka:
