What Tires will fit a 2003 3500 Dually ? Need Bigger

I am looking for some bigger tires for my Dually .I bet some of you OSO members has all ready changed them out ?What size did you go with??

The Chevys come with such small tires on the 4x4 Dually from the factory. They look funny . It has Goodyears ATS LT215 85 R16 10ply load E on it now. I would like to stay with the all AT style ,But I want a taller and a little wider tire . It has about 1-1 1/2inch clearance between the 2 rear tires.I am thinking something around a 245 or 256 size will fit ?

All ready have the rims ,so I'm not going up from 16's

Thanks

Rob :D

I had a 99 crewcab dually and i fit the 265-75-16 all the way around......i think i had a 5/16" spacer on the rear tires to keep them from rubbing together if memory serves me right......but it filled up the whell wells nicely. And you can go to the dealer to get the computer reflashed for the larger tires with no problem.
If you have the D-max then make sure the tech knows what they are doing cause theres apparently two different computers that need to be updated. The engine and the trans BOTH need the info updated or you may get some weird shifting patterns.....

I wonder if my rims have a differant offset on the rear that I might not have to use a spacer??

Anybody else??

I have an 01 3500. It came with little 215's on it. I ran a set of 235/85's until they wore out.... they came close to touching when loaded in the rear but I never had any problems with them. Not much of a difference in ride or looks.

A few weeks ago, I put on a set of BFG mud terrain size 255/85 (3000lbs load range D) and installed a set of index keys for the front torsion bars, which raised the front up almost 2", and put in a 2" block in the rear. Without a spacer the rears would rub bad, so I put in a 1/2" spacer and now they only slightly touch if loaded heavy.

So far I have 5k miles on them and really love the ride. The are great off road and at boat ramps (havent been stuck yet). I will rotate them pretty soon and make sure that the sidewalls of the rear aren't wearing.... if they are, I will have to move up to a bigger spacer, which would require longer studs.

Did you have to change the studs with the 1/2" spacer ??

Strip.

Let me first say I have a 2001 Ford Dually 4X4.

DO NOT PUT ON THE 265'S....WIDER NOT TALLER.
MIne came with 235/85/16's

I have had three different sets of 255/85/16's on my dually. They are load rated at about 2900 lbs and can carry what the 235/85/16 E rated tires will. This is the Largest tire you can run on a dually with out the spacers.... Like I said 3 sets of tires with no problems.
DO NOT RUN THE SPACERS
best set to date. TOYO M-55 RADIALS. Fantastic tire, just over 33" tall and only turn 624 revs per mile, lowering your rear end ratio on a 4.10 rear end to about 3.93-3.91. 70 on the speedo = 73 MPH.

I have just put another set on about a month ago. fills in the wheel wells better.

19.5 Ricksons with Goodyear G124 245/75R19.5. I have 35,000 miles on them and they look great. A little noisy on the road.

The spacer that I have does not require longer studs.... but anything wider would.

Bryan- the chevy wheels don't have as much offset as the fords.... the biggest tire that can be installed without spacers on a chevy is a 235.

My bad , you are correct, I was not sure it was a cheby....235's would be better on it than what he has.

Rob, I put 285/75/16 goodyear ats "D's" on my 02 chevy dually with the alcoa's,up front i turned the torsion bars up 3.5 turns and in the rear i had arp make me longer studs and had 2'' spacers made. I towed my 41 apache for two years and 32,000 miles with no problems at all and it looked perfect filled up the wheel wells and still was inside the fenders and no rubbing. Ike

Ike about How much did the studs and spacers cost????

I really didn't want to get into buying spacers and studs.

I guessing the 235/85/16 is as big as will fit with out rubbing?...The bad thing about it the 235's you probably want be able to tell much difference in looks:( :(

Thanks for the replys :D

I saw on another site that makes the spacers with the studs built in 2 inch spacer. I wonder how much they are$$ and do they put the tire out side the wheel well lip???????

Rob,

Did you ever figure out what size tires worked best for your dually?

It looks like 235-245 with out spaces and with the spacers up to 285. I haven't done anything yet. I cant decide what to do and i have about 10k left on the front tires.I think any thing bigger that the 236 I will need to recalibrate the speed-do .if the idiots here know how :(

The truck just looks funny with such small tires :(

Agree. Although I think 235/85's might touch on the inside on the rear. I measured my truck and there is only one inch between the stock rear tires. Dunlop's website shows the following measurements:

215/85/16 Stock Tire
Section Width = 8.6 inches

235/85/16
Section Width = 9.3 inches

My truck also has rubber valve stems instead of steel. What dumb@ss bean counter made that decision. Thats just another upgrade we have to make in order to go to load range E tires at 80 psi.

Keep us updated on your project. There will be others of us who will be doing the same mods.

I run the 235/85/16, michelins. I realy like the way they look. They fill out the wheel wells alot nicer and just look like the truck should have came with them.Truck also seems taller when I'm driving, maybe it's just me. No problems with rubbing and tows great.
