I would buy the 6.0. More power and a better trans for towing. I bought a used early 03 6.0. I did a search on the warranty history and it had no issues. Not all of them were bad. I have had no issues in 12K and one year of ownership and it is mostly towing miles.

No issues from my 2001 7.4 powerstroke.
Friend of mine had a 2001 F350 7.4 powerstoke that he put 100k miles on with 40in tires and the only issue he had was traction bars breaking and oil leak at the back of the intake. |

Still looking

Re: F350 Dually PSD Information
I am looking in the same vintage/variety. There are quite a few out there for sale. I would not buy a 2003 6.0. I am sure there are plenty running just fine out there, but too much risk. A 2003 (early) 7.3L PSD would be ideal; but I may go look at a black 2001 in the next week or so.

Re: F350 Dually PSD Information
You cannot go wrong with a well cared for 7.3. I have seen several with 300K + plus miles on them.
We bought a new one in 2002, F-350 4 x 4, CC Dually and it has been the perfect truck. I have 53,000 miles on it and other then one set of tires at 45,000, brakes and upper and lower ball joints it has been trouble free. I personally do not want anything to do with the 6.0, and if I were buying a new truck today it would be a Duramax. We have one guy that asks me if I am ready to sell my truck every time I see him. I think I had better keep it. I base my opinion on two friends that have had SEVERAL issues with their 6.0 from oil leaks to head gaskets. One gave up and traded his for a Dodge and the other just had his re-flashed when all the gauges quit working last week. Also I met a guy last year that work for International. He told me that Ford came to them with four demands. 1- More Power 2-Better Fuel Economy 3-Lighter Weight 4-CHEAPER to purchase He said that ALL the internals were lighter and weaker than what they used in the 7.3, and that UPS tested the engine and turned it down. Go to the following website and look at what people are saying about the 6.0 and you can decide for yourself. The Diesel Stop . Com http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbthreads/ New Post 6.0 7000 miles Sga continues. 2005 SD f250 6.O 4x4 purchased 7/05. At 2800 miles lost the main oil pump. Was at the dealers for 12 days. Now at 7000 miles just returned from the dealer with new HPOP and new injector #3. Truck died on the freeway no prior indications. Running smooth up until this point. I like this truck, runs great, when running. Don'tlike being stranded twice in 7000 miles. At what point should I contact ford customer service? My dealer says not to worry you are under warranty, but I have a bad feeling about the future and this truck. Total down time has been 17 days at this point. Next Post Coincidentally I bought mine in July also; down 9 days. There is a ton more just like this! I would freak if my truck was down for 17 days. When we get ready to go I want a truck I can depend on. I'm sure some guys have got good ones, but I am not willing to take a chance. Good Luck |
