F350 Dually PSD Information

Looking around at some trucks. Mainly interested in a 2000-2003 F350 Crew Cab Dually PSD 4X4. Did they have any problems with these?

Thanks in advance
LS JR.

Yes. There were significant problems in the early 6.0L's ('03)...if you get a 7.3L, there should be no problem, as that motor is about bulletproof in its later years. If you want a 6.0L, get a late '04 or later. They had a lot of issues and bugs.

Anyone have one they want to sell with the 7.3L?

As with anything new (like the 6.0) they had a few issues. Ford did a very good job of remedying those issues. Not always were there instant fixes and some of the computer flashes weren't 100% but they straightened it outI had an '03 6.0 and it had no more or less troubles than any new vehicle. I know a bunch of others with the same experience. I now have an '04 Excursion and an '05 on the way.

I have a theory about the "6.0 bad rap". I believe it's the handful of owners who got on the net and started posting about them. Happy owners have little reason to post about their trucks.

The 7.3 was a good motor but the transmission was a little weak,,other than that it was a good truck( I had a 2000 f350 crew cab 4x4) but I love my 04 6.0 with the new transmission.(and I've had no problems in the last 15 months I've owned it)

Agreed. But they did rush it to market. Not knockin' Ford, I'm a Ford guy through and through, but I wouldn't buy an early 6.0L...I absolutely love my '05, though!

All things being equal, I wouldn't either. However, If I came across a stellar deal on an '03, I wouldn't hesitate. Ford has rthe bugs worked out and I figure whatever they needed has been done to what trucks are on the road.

Had an 03 Ex bought back by ford. Have 3 450's all 03's so far 1engine at 25k, all have had new injectors at less than 50k. None of them ever saw offroad diesel.

I had a 7.3L, their great motors the only problem I ever had was the trans went out at about 130k miles (which I'm not complaining about) . Now I have a '04 6.0L ,(45k miles) I had an oil leak from the high pressure lines (pretty common) and the computer was re-flashed three times, other than that it has been a great truck and it rides much better than the old one plus they have more power :D . like they said just be careful if you get an 03 6.0L.
