Diesel chiping, what exhaust to use?

Father has a late model GMC 3/4 ton with the EDGE chip in it. We had it installed in FL last year. He is going down again and wants to put some exhaust on the truck.

Here is my question, is it better to get a custom system. Or use a prefabed set up?

He wanted to remove the Cataletic, but I told him "I don't think you can with all the exhaust senser.

Input please?

i just put a magnaflo kit on my truck, it eliminated the cat (f-250), there isn't any sensors in the cat or behind that.... the bigger the better on a turbo diesel setup...

I am very happy with MBRP. Most of them are all the same system with somelses logo. There really isnt much to it. There is only so many ways to go from the turbo out the back with a 4" pipe and a simple muffler.

How is the sound guys?

So there isn't any sensers in the cat. So maybe the best is to go with a custom 4" SS pipe. If the cost is better og course.

you might be surprised, the kits probably are cheaper and will go on faster being pre-designed.. my truck the noise really didn't change much, at highway speed it might be quieter.. at idle it might be slightly louder, but not much...

I sell a lot the MBRP and Bullydog kits, but I also deal in magnaflow and ats, most of the kits are very similar and easy to install.

I have an el-cheapo aluminized 4-5" kit on mine from www.kennedydiesel.com

I have an 01 (no cat) and ended up removing the flow through muffler and replacing with a piece of pipe and a turn-out on the tip. It is actually quiter inside the truck now than with the muffler.... but on the outside it is a little loud, but I've never gotten any complaints.

As mentioned, the bigger the better for turbos. No muffler at all really lowers the exhaust temps while towing. I tow 12,000lbs (13.5' high) on the 90 hp setting (with 125hp Edje chip) and rarely get above 1250 degrees pre-turbo.

4" exhausts work great on the Duramax. We offer Cat Back and Turbo Back Single and Dual Systems for 2001-2006.
