New Z-06 scalding hot......
Car and Driver magazine did a comparison test between the new Z-06 and Viper GTS.
Vette won hands down. They posted a 3.4 second 0 to 60 time and the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds. Not too shabby for a base priced 65K car....:drink: |
Re: New Z-06 scalding hot......
Chevrolet has always had the right idea with this car.
It competes handily with automobiles 5 times the cost, repairs cost a fraction and the car looks awesome and they hold their value. |

Re: New Z-06 scalding hot......
And it looks great.... When I saw this latest body for the first time from the front I thought it was a Ferrari.

Yeah, those numbers are really impressive. World class performance, won't have to back down from anything.
I have to admit though, I still like the mid 60's Sting Rays the best. When you get in one of those and lite it off, it feels like it's alive. Am picking this up over Thanksgiving holidays. 65' 327/365 HP. 58,000 miles and in just mint mint mint condition. Surveyor said he'd never seen a better one and looked as though it had been kept in a baby's cradle all it's life. I'm totally psyched.....:D |

Re: New Z-06 scalding hot......
The Z06 is definately a smokin hot car. I just hope that Chevy decides to produce the other Vette model I saw. I wanna say the name of the project was Blue Devil or something like that. Basically a 706 but with a Big Block displacement motor with all the high tech goodies. Thing looked bada$$ too.

Thanks. I got to drive a 54 with that straight six about three years ago. It was a blast. Handled like it was riding on bb's. A great time....:drink: |
Re: New Z-06 scalding hot......
The new Z0-6's are dynoing at way over the advertised 505 Hp mark...coming in around the 550+ HP mark...that's why they are smok'in Vipers. Think about it.

I'd say your right on the money with that assessment. The Vette ran an 11.8 quarter to the Viper's 12.2. That almost half a second difference. I'd say that's an easy 50 hp advantage probably slightly more. I did a fair amount of drag racing in my "yut" and "old school" technology it would take about 10/15 hp to gain a tenth of a second E.T. drop. Then again a call to Hennesey would resolve some of those issues...... I just wish the new Z-06 had a 427 emblem on it. That would have been a great marketing ploy....:drink: |

Those vidios were cool. What kind of blower was on the Vette. It sounded great!

That engine with those solid lifters had the best sound! I had a '64 coupe in black with the 327/300 HP. It was stolen and I was able to buy a 1967 427/390 with the claim money. This is ancient history 1968! |
Re: New Z-06 scalding hot......
Vettes and C-6:
If you guys are ever in this area (Nashville/Bowling Green), you should take a tour through the Corvette Museum across the street from the factory in Bowling Green, Ky. They have Vettes from every series, race cars, and prototypes on display. The factory will also allow prearranged tours, particulary for Corvette owners and car clubs. I had a '68 when I was a kid, and I'm starting to get the bug again. Tough call between the '63/'67 Stingray and the new C-6, which is the real deal. Chevy has a winner here. When they were running their "employee discount program" over the summer, the C-6 was the ONLY car in their lineup not included. I had my Tahoe in for service a couple of weeks ago, and always check out the Corvette showroom at the dealer while I'm there (Jim Reed/Nashville). He had a new "velocity yellow" coupe, a black coupe, and a new C-6 Z06, the 1st one I've seen. The Z06 is way badass. The Z06 listed for $71,000 with options, and they tacked on a $10,000 "limited market availability" dealer surcharge sticker. This was on late on a Wednesday afternoon. I went back Friday AM, and the Z06 was gone. A salesman said he "sold it yesterday, for sticker ($81K)". I guess someone REALLY wanted that Corvette  .................. I have a friend who special ordered his Z06 back in the summer, and he was "allowed to pay factory sticker as a courtesy for an existing customer", if he didn't mind waiting until November. To save $10K, he made a smart move. Regards, Steve |

Re: New Z-06 scalding hot......
I live in Bowling Green and have many of the engineers as patients. They say this is the best vette yet. It took them a while to get all the tolerances right on the carbon fiber panels. They say lighter weight, more horsepower and better suspension. These people work with these everyday and this is the most excited they have been over a new model.

Ran across one, think it was Barret Jackson auction, that had 2,300 original miles, and it went for just under 200K, black on black. Just as badazz as they come....:drink: |
