Tires
I have a chevy 2500 with Firestone steeltex 245/75/16 tires.They only have 37000mi on them and look terible.All four are worn to the wear bars.My other 2500 went 55000mi and still look better.Alignment has been checked and found to be good.What is your favorate brand E rated tire? Wouldn't mind a litte taller,but don't want to rub.

Had the exact same tires on a 2003 3/4 suburban. Just replaced them last weekend after 44K miles. They still had a fair amount of tread left but I wanted new tires (several years ago we had a vehicle spin out at 70mph in the rain with low tread tires). Put 265/75/16 Michelin LTX's on it. Ride seems a little better, but I haven't driven it much yet.

The Michelin LTX m&S is great tire, the highway rib makes them ride smooth without a ton of sound. I have the yokohama geolander on my 4 runner a 12.5x32 is similar to the size you mention, just keep in mind the the ratios, even if you just go waider, that will change the aspect ratio and make it taller. it's icing out now and I just got back with no problems. the yok's rock and a great tread pattern as well...

I have the 265/75/16 Bridgestone AT Revo's on my 2500HD. Great tires! No comparison to the garbage Firestones that were stock. You may want to research some of the truck sites. I know I have seen the Michelin tires recommended also. Dan |

Michelin tire would be the very best available. The next tire down would be the Bridgestone. I special ordered my 2500HD with Bridgestones since the Michelins were not one of the options given. They are doing very well and no noise.
Also....alignment is a relative term and can be defined differently by each mechanic you talk to. It is a silly numbers game but to keep it simple and true to tire wear...the closest the numbers are to ZERO toe, and ZERO camber when the truck is loaded, the longer the tire will last. I've seen alignments where the machine will show the vehicle to be within spec range and the tires will chew right off, and ride poorly. Just some perspective from a certified master mechanic. :D |

Some trucks will even fit the 285 series tires. You may have to crank the front torsion bars up a bit. I would look at only 3 tires:
BFG Goodrich All Terrain KO BFG Goodrich Rugged Trail Cooper Discoverer ATR I have had all three tires, and I think they are all great. I currently run BFG Rugged Trails on my truck 265 series, E-load rated. If 285 series would have fit, I would have gone with the BFG AT/KO. I would recommend a wider wheel/tire combo. I went from the factory 16"x6.5" wheels to a 16x8. Now I am running a 17x8. The difference in towing is undescribable. I will never tow with the original wheels/tires again; in fact, I sold them. |

Just put the Revo's on my F-150 they are GREAT,, don't even need 4-wheel drive in most snow situations now, road noise is a tiny bit more but well worth it.. I would highly reccomend them. I was also considering the Cooper AT's...

Yokohama Geolander h/ts have an excellent e rated tire.
I have run them on a 00 tahoe (GO51) where they handled and wore better than the firestones or michelins. Also on a 05 3500hd dually(GO53) and a 99 z71 pickup.(GO52) will be putting them on my 06 2500hd as soon as I can get a programmer for it. Good stiff sidewall for better towing. |

I have been through 2 set's of BFG Goodrich All Terrain KO's on My 4x4 Yukon and they wear very well, 40K + miles
285 70-16. I highly recomend them. |

Thanks for all the input,I think I will start looking into brands you all mentioned.I think I will move up to 265s,I saw a truck with that size on it,and it more balanced.

How would the gear ratio in the rear end of my 05' 2500HD DMax have to be changed for a kelderman air ride 12" lift and 49" IROC tires?

I just went for the bling. 20x10 Eagle Alloys and and 305-50x20 "extra load" Goodyear Eagle GTs. Both wheels AND tires are rated for over 3000 lbs each :cool:

you can go to 285"s on that truck with stock suspension. what you need to do is turn the torsion adjuster up most of the way, this does stiffen the ride some. then trim the bottom corner of the bumper cover just a little. you will need to have the alignment reset after raising the torsion bars. this gives the truck a somewhat raised look some of my customers like that this takes away the "nose down" look. the dealer can reprogram the ecm to partially correct the speedo error caused by the bigger tires.

I had the OEM Firestone tires on my 2500HD and they where JUNK.. They lasted about 21000 miles and that was it... I put on BFG all terrain KO's on it and I now have almost 70000 on the truck and the tires are going strong still. I would say a good 7-9K miles left in them. Would not consider another tire. I dont have a boat anymore to pull, but I do pull a 14,000Lb trailer around almost daily and no issues.

The stock GM wheel is only 6.5" wide, I was looking at the Michelin 265's, and they recommended at least a 7" wide wheel. I would be comfortable squeeze a 265 on the rim, but do the 285's wear right? What P.S.I. do you guys run? Does any one pull a 5th wheel with front end lifted?
