looking for a gmc 3500 dually

Hi , I,m looking for a 97-00 GMC 3500 crew cab 4x4 dually, with the following options. SLE model with cloth high back bucket seats, 7.4 liter, auto, tow package. Non smoker with low mileage and in excellent condition. Black or red. I've been looking for a while, the cloth buckets seem to be the hardest to find. Thank You.

Last year I was looking at the same year range as you trying to keep my costs down as the truck would mainly be used for towing. I looked for 6 monthes trying to find a low mileage truck in decent shape for reasonable cost with little luck. I never pay more than loan value for a used vehicle. Used car dealers usually list vehicles for at least 5K over what they have invested in them so try to find a private seller. On the east coast the same people that own the large auction companies also own the auto trader publications. When a vehicle is sold at one of these auction companies many times it is automatically listed on autotrader.com. I would call about trucks that were listed and the dealer would tell me that it was sold 3 mos ago. Anyway I ended up buying a 2002 locally from a private seller looking to get out of the payment due to his wife being pregnant, and I got a newer truck for the same price as what many dealers wanted for 97-00 trucks. If I were you I would try to get a 01-02 with the 8.1 Allison combo instead of the 7.4 and 4L80 in the older models.

Another angle you can try is the RV websites. Try to find someone who only used the truck to tow a camper a few times a year.

Also try to find a used car dealer who will let you look at the auction sheets from the last few monthes to see what the trucks are selling for at auction. Good luck in your search.
