msrp is 58k... that is quite a discount!

what dealer quoted $34k ??? I have been thinking about one of these to pull my race trailer. My current dually is OK but I woudn't mind a little more truck. Get me phone number for that dealer!

2wd would be fine. 4wd would be nice for the winter. However I think a 4wd might be out of my price range. Plus isn't the gas mileage better with a 2wd?

My concerns are:
Improved gas mileage. My 3500 with 8.1 gets 7-8mpg with the new trailer unloaded. I'm guessing i'll see 6-7 when its loaded with 3 cars (1000lbs each) and another 1000-1500lbs in gear.

Increase my range, With the relatively small tank and the crappy MPG i can;t very far per tank and I hate pulling over and filling up a bunch of time per trip. I've been thinking aux tank in the bed but they will cost me at least a grand. And i still have crappy gas mileage.

Finally the new trailer is much heavier than my old one and it seems to have a bunch more tongue weight than my old 36' . In fact the dually squats when its loaded up. Its acceptable BUT a heavier truck would be nicer.


Do you need a CDL for these things? I've been told that I technically need a CDL for my current dually and 44' race trailer already.

These light MD trucks are not for everyone, many have the same engines as the one ton's, way more ring and pinion (to up tow rating/get the job done) and weigh considerably more.

So you're pimping, safer, usually sacrifice ride (Though air seats can help), worse mileage, slower towing and more debt. Guess I'm saying, don't get it if the dually can safely handle the job and if you do go that way- accept the performance or step up to a 650ish type truck where you get 22.5's for the better ride and bigger engines with way more tq.

That is a nice ride and at 50 k or so is priced in dually range. good for shorter trips, but too small for longer trips (3+ hrs)

i'd heard from several people that they get better mpg than dually's

the other option would be like a crew cab fl60. A full conversion toterhome is bigger than i want to be driving. I like the ability to also use it as a pickup truck. The fl60 woudl be larger than i'd want, but could maybe be workable.

Maybe....... a gasoline dually, otherwise BS, more weight, less aerodynamics etc. I tow my race trailers with my hopped up 3500 dodge (800 ftlbs) and FL70 Toter with 3126 tweaked to 920 ft lbs. The Dodge is a race car in comparison, but with the toter, you don't feel the trailer. Dodge gets 1-2 mpg better at 75-80 mph. The toter is geared just a bit taller, 150 rpm's? and both have 6 speed manuals.

The MDT's and Toters actiually get around pretty good- don't know about the 4x4 but my FL70 turns the front wheels like 52 degrees or close to that. It's surprisingly nimble for 270" WB- not a daily driver, but I take into town etc to go eat and park just fine.

Some of the MDT's have a gross weight limited by the tranny more than anything else- just another somethign to check-

The 450 is a good deal if it suits your needs.
