My power steering pump blew (I'm pretty sure since it leaked fluid EVERYWHERE) and it somehow blew this pulley out which stopped my alternator from charging and stopped the radiator fan from moving. So I drove home from work the other night with no power steering, my batter gauge showing no amps, and my temperature gauge spiked to 260. I turned the heat on, nothing but cold air came out and didn't help the engine temp any. Can't wait to see how much this will set me back.

is that a jeep i have seen it before also you need to clean that battery

Re: Does this look normal?

Yeah it's a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0L I-6. You've seen that type of thing happen before? Do you know what caused it or how much it cost to fix?

Yeah that battery could use some help...it's done a good job though, it even helped jump the TG once. I'll get a new one eventually...but I'm looking at some other expenses right now :(

Pretty shotty wiring work too...I've been meaning to clean that up a bit.

Re: Does this look normal?

check the belt tensioner make sure it is working right and not holding the belt to tight if it is good could have been a bad pump or you may have a leak in a highpressor line causing a low power steering fluid level

while your getting this fixed, you better change your engine and trans fluids as well.....seeing that you spiked 260 the oils were geeting fried as well and breaking down.....youll have bigger problems down the road on bad fluids! :(

Alright I'll mention that to them. Last time I checked, the Jeep was still sitting in the driveway waiting for a tow...I just wanna get this done with and find out much it's gonna set me back.

No belt = no water pump = bad news. Likely you havn't seen all the damage yet :(

Thanks GL, that cleared so much up for me :p :D

Just got a call back from the mechanic. Apparently all he had to replace was the power steering pump. I asked about the pulley and they said everything was fine. It only cost me $290 including the $50 tow and the $35 inspection. I'm hoping that's all it'll need now for a while...I'll find out on Weds. when I can get back into it.

I forgot to mention in the first post that it was only like 14 degrees out when I was driving it home, and only drove a couple of miles with it getting hot, so I'm hoping the damage was minimal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to God that everything is ok.

You got off easy - just think - if it were a boat, 2,900 for the fix, 500 for the tow and 350 for inspection (a beat run by mechanic after boat is fixed)

I know I did, I just hope that it all holds up, and that there wasn't any damage to the aluminum heads or else I'd be screwed.

Sono***un=

You may have a warped cylinder head, check your fluids.

The mechanic said everything was fine, he checked for over heating damage. I'll check all of the fluids tomorrow though, thanks.

Re: Does this look normal?

Luckily you have a cast iron head and a virtually indestructible engine in that thing. Even a couple of miles with no water flow would toast a lot of engines, but you are likely o.k. with the 4.0. Just watch your coolant level over the next 300-500 miles.

Re: Does this look normal?

Well it's been a few hundred miles since then, so I guess a complete fluid check would be wise to do in the morning.

I've heard that the 4.0 is one hell of a motor. I've seen countless ZJ's with a lot more miles than my has and still going strong. I just hope the transmission holds up too...
