Opinions on Dodge 3500 V10
I currently use my Yukon XL to tow my 26' boat, and it does ok. The problem is it is also my daily driver and my commute was recently extended. So I am looking to get a car for the DD and a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck for towing duties. I recently came upon a 1996 Dodge 3500 V10 Dually club cab. It is a SLT with an auto and 4x4. Also it has a plow and about 100,000 miles. I can get it for about $5000, however I am wondering what problems to expect besides tranny, if any. Our tow is usually 30 to 40 miles each way and I want something that is somewhat reliable. If I were to buy, I would get the tranny overhauled. In any case, just looking for anything else I should look out for. Thanks for your help.

Re: Opinions on Dodge 3500 V10
I have a recently bought V-10 Dually 1997 automatic 4x4 reg cab. It has 92,000 miles on it. Everything seems great to tow my Cigarette Mistress. I see you know that the Transmission is the weak link. I have been told by numerous people and Dodge themseleves, what ever you do, don't tow in overdrive. The V-10 has a lot of power, and torque. The gas mileage sucks, but the price seems right. I only use it to tow. The Tahoe is my daily driver. Good luck!

Tranny will be the weak link, but your gas station attendant will be your new best friend :drink:
Have a mechanic you know go over the truck thoroughly, preferably someone that knows the history of Dodges typical issues. |
