UD trucks????

anyone here know anything about them? Reliability? Quality? Servicing?

A racing buddy has a toterhome biult on a UD truck chassis for sale for cheap and I'm contemplating selling my dually and replacing it with a toterhome. Its a 1993 but it has under 20,000 miles on it.

Are they decent trucks or somethign to stay away from?

UD is a brand, like freighliner, mack, izuzu, etc.... I see them all the time down here in FL. I dont know much about them other than there are a bunch on the roads.

I am the ONLY Authorized source for fuel injection system work down here on them in So Fla.... we have a lot of customers/dealers/lease company's with them, and they seem pretty darn happy overall.

It seems the quality is ok. The ones I see on the road are way under powered and over geared. The are way slow in acceleration, seem to have a top speed of around 60. Any time there is an anthill they slow down to get up. I dont have first hand experience, just the ones that make me POed on the road all the time. Oh yeah the best part, dont get into a front end collision.. I truly hate the UD, Isuzu and Hino trucks, the Hinos are a little better.

i tend to think if i pop anythign with my 44' race trailer attached it doens't matter what truck i'm in, its going to be unpleasant and i'm goign to get squished.

Again, I dont have wheel time on them, so all I can give you is my bias. So with that being said. I find them an encumbrance on the highway, most of the time you have to pass them because they can get out of there own way. Tiny little diesel engines that scream away, and just dont seem to move. I might be a bit spoiled after driving more powerful trucks, but man they are just snails. I also suppose its in part that the vast majority of them are driven by Mexican type people, that dont seem to care. When my old GMC 3500 HD diesel with a 10K curb weight can pass you you know your in trouble. I also have a Peterbilt 375 ten wheel truck, (cat powered 13 speed) just to give my view point. I am sure that they are well made and last, like most Jap stuff
