Re: 24 Hours to decision, CTD or LBZ, opinions?

The dodge is going to be more of a work truck than the chevy, as in the engines are alot louder and ride rougher.
That might have been the case in pre-2003 Cummins engines. The majority of noise was caused by the VP-44 injection pump that is no longer used. When they went to the high pressure common rail for fuel delivery, they have become the quietest of the three. My 2005 is much quieter than my friends new Duramax.

As far as choice, if you are looking for an automatic, the Allison/Duramax combo is hard to beat. Myself, I like a good old fashioned hand shaker. I have always been a Cummins nut, and would agree they are not a good choice with an automatic. However, with a 6-speed, they are just about bullet proof. I did drive a new Chevy last week, and have been impressed by the Duramax. When the times comes to forgo the manual and purchase an automatic, then I will more than likely purchase a GM.

I have not seen any reports on the dieselplace web site of 2006 Allison failures. Can you point me at your source, are they related to a specific programmer?

find a low mileage 7.3 powerstroke...only way to fly. early model 2003's had them before they split to the 60

Re: 24 Hours to decision, CTD or LBZ, opinions?

After much debate, two test drives in each, and a call from my Mercedes dealer to unstall the deal, it's the Duramax!!!
I've had three Rams, last one being the hemi, liked 'em all but when going to the 2500 and not being an off roader, the Chevy's ride quality sold me. Dodge was a little trucky for me. I also like the way the allison works vice the 4speed auto in the Dodge. Immediate things that need to happen is removing the goofy 4x4 stickers on the box, bedliner, soft tonnaeu, and I ain't likin' that black grille. Rip, point me in the right accesorizing direction. Not sure if I hate the black door handles enough to swap, that'll be a price based decision. Thanks again for all the opinions, I now have the capability to go get the 33-35 foot boat I have yet to find. (Or drag my friends 35s if'n they break 'em.)
