Semi Tires Revisited

I really would like to install 22.5 rims and semi tires.Im a little gun shy because Im hearing the ride is real harsh. What air pressure can you safely run ? I would also like someone to do the complete swap anyone in florida you recommend?

Are the tire companies starting to make taller tires but not as stiff,or as thick? I dont want to spend all the money and be disapointed.Met a guy in Georgia and he said he runs 35 lbs of air in his.Any info?

I have been told that Red's in Miami is the place to get this done right. Let me know how you make out. I really like the look, but too afraid to pull the trigger :(

Me too! The guy I met in Georgia pulls a 42 fountain. He didnt speculate on the ride or pulling capabilities though.

Call GAW Diesel in Miami @ 305-591-2190. They fixed my Ford truck a few years ago and they were really cool. They were doing alot of the 22.5's on duallys.

The 2 main advantage's of the 22.5's is that you don't have to rotate them and the tires last for like 100K miles

35lbs of air will only lead to excessive heat build-up and a premature wear pattern,, plus you'll have a tuff time getting any kind of warranty adjustment for them. What size are you looking at? 255/70R22.5? Sense load carrying capacity is not going to be an issue, you need to go with as little a ply rating as you can find. That will help the ride more than anything you can do, except a good suspension package,, also, most import Tires are a lot stiffer (sidewall) than name brand Tires, even though they are cheeper youll sacrifice the good ride your looking for.

Exactly,I dont really know tire sizes in this range. If I new diameter it would probably help.Im looking to lift the truck not slam it.Max 6 inch lift but then again can I order a 6 inch lift that has soft springs??

I'll get some O.D's for you and post them tonight. Why don't you give Buck183 a PM,, He's the board "guru" on lifting trucks.

Here ya go "P.C."

255/70R22.5 - O.D. 36.6 inches
Width 10.8 inches
rim 7.5 inch

275/70R22.5 - O.D. 38.3
Width 11.9 inches
rim 8.25
or, if you want the "shizzle", I saw these on a dually at the Miami Boat show

385/65R22.5 - O.D. 42.2
Width 15.3
Rim 11.75 to 12.25

Hope this helps!! Mitch
