Took my truck in to have tires put on it a few years ago. I asked them to look everything over and fix whatever it needed. We were going on vacation- my wife was leaving a week earlier and driving, stopping at her sister's. I flew out and met her before we continued on. I got in the car at the airport and suddenly heard a big grinding noise. The front pads were gone and the rotors were totally chewed up. I ended up buying the parts and some tools at a local Auto Zone and doing a parking lot brake job. Now, I take whatever opportunity to look under all my vehicles on a regular basis. An oil change is the easiest way to make sure I do it.

I do my own on the Diesel, but I was in a GM dealer next to a guy who pulls in with his duramax, oil & filter, and has them do the labor and disposal charged him about 12 bucks. Not bad since you can not get a diesel oil change for less than 50 bucks around here.

I do it myself. I run amsoil synethic in my PSD.

I change trucks before I need to change the oil :D .....Who needs a dually ?

I do it myself because I use Synthetic oil and the dealerships won't. 50 dollars sounds cheap, best price here is 89 dollars. Also I don't want my truck reprogrammed and the dealerships think they must do this everytime they touch your truck.

do it all myself...just like the boat

in fact I just changed the oil today. Delvac 1300 and Wix/NAPA Gold filter. Also changed the Allison spin-on filter ($9 w/tax at the Allison dealer around the corner). At 1200 miles it was time for both. The engine oil was BLACK and THIN cold. Put in my Fumoto drain valve also.

Topped off the rear axle too. It was a qt. under spec (most of them are, or lower :rolleyes: ). Funny thing is the rear axle level was the only thing I asked them to check at PDI based on prior experience. :mad: I had a qt of "grape juice" here left from servicing the last one so I filled it to spec. It will get a complete change @ 5K or so.

The fuel filters are cake too...

my self the dealors want to munch rat bastered fleetgard filters from cummins alantic . the dealor charges $45 for a $ 12 for a fg fuel filter $37 for air 13 at ca and $12 oil 8 at ca they will neaver touch my truck . :mad:

oh i would hate to see what they charge for 3 gal of shell rotella t . :drink:

Alot less than a motor.

I've had 3 engines go over 400K on Mobil 1 and still going without any repairs whatsoever. Running strong when the chassis gave out. Synthetic is a sucker bet.


You GM guys are spoiled with your cheap oil changes- the 6.0Ford filter is $50
