Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
I have a 03 F250 5.4 and put a K&N stage 2 (I think) soon after buying it new and it did little more than make more noise when I stand on it, mileage didn't change at all. I also had a oem style K&N on my old car and if anything it clogged my mass air sensor after couple years from over oiling when cleaned.

Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
one thing to look out for is over oiling the filters it will mess with the mass air flows. On my rig I run the Mac filter as well. Looking at the green filters by quadzilla to try when truck gets out of paint shop.

Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
I personally opted for the Airaid system and then used a 2" hole saw on the air baffle behind the grille so that fresh air flows directly into the air box. Also used a Bassani turbo back 4" system and an Edge with attitude programmer.
I clean the filter at every service(every 5,000 miles) and never oil it. (we found that on the motorcycles, on the dyno oiling the filter cost us a couple of h.p. consistently.) |
Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
To date I have done 11 Ford 6.0 trucks. My best results have been using a MBRP turbo back exhaust. I opted for the 3-1/2 down pipe vs the 4" cause got tired of modifying the firewall and yeilded no better results. I opted for Cat delete and always cool duals for better disbursing temps (egt's) and it looks great as well. On the Fords I go with SCT custom tune www.innovativediesel.com a race tune which is my every day driver, street tune and a tow tune. This is the best devise if you want your tranny to live and shift properly on the Fords. These guys will do anything you want from 4400 rpm shifts, to locking up the torque converter in all or certain geras. The second option is the Edge Plat., which I have on my second 06, its ok not as accurate, defuels during shifts in higher hp levels, but has gauges built into the attitude, and a few other nice features. I like Mac air intakes, 6" tube for more air vs 4".
On the GM's I have found Quadzilla works the best Have fun guys. Jeff |

Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
I have been watching several threads on dieselplace regarding aftermarket intakes. Seems like the 06 Duramax doesn't care for them. Have caused many check engine lights.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89565 This guy removed his and went back to stock. He now has 110K miles towing on an 2006 LBZ Duramax  I now have the Predator programmer and probably only other mod will be the cat back exhaust with dual outlets. I could not be more impressed with the 06 Duramax motor (so far :D ) |
Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
not worth it unless you have a good engine tune to take advantage of the increased air flow

Check out the site I linked above.
www.trueflow.com They basically make a foam filter that filters better than the stock paper or K&N type cotton elements. It drops right into the factory airboxes, and most of their foam drop in filters IN THE STOCK AIRBOX system flow BETTER than full intake upgrades with cotton or paper type elements. |

Brian, any personal experience? They all make it sound like their products cure bunions and cancer  |
Re: air intakes- worth it?- which one is best?
I have the TrueFlow on my truck. I like it. I check it once in a while and it stays pretty clean, but I don't drive my truck that much. I have the TrueFlow system on my 7.3 with a small collar they add to the airbox hose that heads to the turbo. I added a BullyDog 4/6 position chip and MBRP 4" to 5" duals at the same time. The truck hauls ass. The guy that put it together for me (OutlawMark here on OSO) said its the fastest stock turbo 7.3 he has driven. Mine is a 2000, that I just bought in February. I bought it with 58,000 miles and I think I have 62,500 on it now. I could not be happier with the truck and the accessories I have added.
