I trailer every time out and want no part of that.......do they all float????

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

tell him to slow his ass down when he's backin it in! haha!

he probably has a lightweight alum trailer with large wooden bunks and foam carpeting or pads on them or has too much psi in the tires..

the only alum trailer ive had that floated was from a little fishing boat back in the day..

just my two cents, the last two i had didnt float.. they were both 27' trailers though.. itd take quite a bit to float one of those..

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

No, they definately do not ALL float. I have posted numerous posts on this topic.

I would place money on the fact that the guy you talked to owns a Rocket Trailer. They are not worth two tins of shinola.

I ran this search and came up with:

I had an aluminum trailer under my 311 and it did float! It was a pain in the ass. My father also had one under his 272 that floated but not nearly as bad as mine.

My new myco aluminum doesn't float and is awesome to tow . I tow everytime I boat and feel the extra $$$$ was worth it to me . I have a friend with a rocket that does float a little but he deals with it without to much trouble .

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

Triple axles float more often that two axle ones. The buoyancy of two more tires is the culprit I have a 10,000 tandem with bunks and it does NOT float.

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

Just bolt a PVC tube filled with sand in front of each axle. The only floating Aluminum trailer I have had was a POS Rocket.

I had a triple loadamster 10500# and it never floated. It did have steel wheels though. It was definately alot lighter towing than the steel trailer I used before.

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

My Rocket trailer floated. I U-bolted a couple of iron 50lb dumbbells on the inside of the I-beams and this worked fine. I tried the PVC route first, and it did not work.

Rocket has a terrible construction habit of cutting the I-beams off right behind the rear axle. This makes for a weaker trailer, less support for your boat, and a lighter trailer, which lets them get away with lighter/cheaper axles making their trailers cheaper to resell. I have seen a few from Rocket that are like this, but that used to me their main mantra. Several other trailers I have seen are like this as well.

You have to look at the buoyant items vs. the weighted items on the trailer. Obviously a triple axle trailer, with 75 lbs ore more of air in 6 tires, with a lot of wood support is going to be buoyant.

They don't all float. Ones that float don't float all the time. It depends on the steepness of the ramp, and the make-up of the water. Salt water is more buoyant than fresh water.

I have a 3 axle aluminum trailer and it always floats, it's a real pain when loading/unloading by yourself, which is about 90% of the time for me. Didn't have this problem with the original 3 axle Continental steel trailer.

My aluminum South Florida trailer has two axles, aluminum wheels and tows my PowerPlay great. It has never floated or given me any other type of problem. The frame rails do extend approx. 4ft past the rear axle.

Aaron, give me a ring if you want, and I will walk you through my fix on my trailer. It was very easy.

I have a triple axle aluminum and no floating whatsoever...all fresh water.

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

I would recommend Iron 50 lbs. dumbbells U-bolted to the inside of the I-beams over the filled PVC route. I tried the PVC route first and it did not work for me. I made 4 that were 80lbs each and it still floated. The PVC itself is bouyant, and if you trap air in them, that's bouyant too.

I U-bolted 4 50lbs. dumbbells inside of my I-beams and it worked like a champ. After I rebuilt my trailer, added bunks, new axles, and an additional axle of brakes. I was able to remove two of them. I placed two inside the I-beams at the very rear of the trailer. I places two inside the beams just in front of the front axle. I was able to remove the front two. Make sure you coat the dumbbells with lots of paint as they are iron. I used 6 coats of black Rustoleum. Use SS U-Bolts and hardware, and find or buy a piece of rubber and cut it to strips to place between the dumbbells and the aluminum trailer. This will isolate vibration and keep dissimilar metal corrosion away. I thought I posted some pics of this a few years ago. This was on my POS Rocket Trailer. My current McClain Aluminum I-Beam trailer does NOT float at all.

Triple Axle load-master 42' won't float.

Maybe we should ask Dave Letterman to do a "DOES IT FLOAT"

And, for the record, my 42 foot older Myco aluminum tri axle doesn't float. :D

I have had a flater or two in the past though.

Re: do all aluminum trailers float????

ive got an aluminum under a 36' baja outlaw. it doesnt float, but it does move when its too deep and there is a strong current. makes for a beotch when its packed at the ramp and a hard current.

I would trade mine with $$ for a nice steel trailer anyday.

I've got a tri-ax alum. trailer and it does float. I purchased two 25lb. (I think) dumbells and strapped them to the frame behind the rear tire. Now it doesn't float.
