Re: Looking For Two 16.5 Trailer Wheels

I might be interested in the alloys, if the price is right - If you sell them, I'll sell the other guy my steel rims (16.5)

anyone with 16.5 wheels before season starts?

jeff32 09-11-2007 10:05 PM

let's give another try! Anyone with these rims? Still need 2!

You should be able to use GM 16 steel wheels on that trailer. The construction guys around here take 16 factory 6 lug steel wheels and mount a 10 ply (e load) tire on them to use under trailers hauling bobcats/ lumber/ etc. The six lug steel wheels were on all GM base model pickups from 99-04 and can be had cheaply on Ebay/ Craigslist since everyone pulls them off to replace with custom wheels. The 17 inch wheels should work too since they have the same bolt pattern but tire clearance on your fenders might be a problem.

yeah, but what about the tires? they are also 16.5

Don't you think air is going to leak? if I remember, it is even written on the tire to mount only on 16.5 rims...

Any idea about this issue?

ONLY 16.5" tires should be mounted on 16.5" rims. And ONLY 16" tires on a 16" rim. Any combination could be lethal to the guy mounting and inflating them, or anyone else who touches them, if they get past the inflation stage. Chances are you'll never find a tire guy who'll do it anyway, since he'll know this and tell you so. 16.5" tires are going by the wayside, I think Jupiter has the right idea by getting a set of 16" takeoffs and mounting the right tires on those. 17" tires are kinda pricey....

16.5 truck tires are readily available, but your options are considerably less than with the 16".

I have a set of (6)aluminum 16.5 rims, 8 on 6.5 available if anyones interested. Style is similar to Outlaw 2, but heavier duty. Priced to move!

I figured you would replace the tires when replacing the wheels and not reuse the wrong size tires.
