need to do a brake job on the front ,

i'm not going to turn the rotors cause i can buy new delcos for around 60 bucks through the shop,

they tell me they also have a drilled rotor that costs 112.00 from delco.

any recomondations on rotors , anything out there that's better...

Re: Chevy 2500 Front Brakes

I just changed the front breakes on my 99 Chevy 3/4 ton.

If you are just going to change the pads it is pretty easy you just loosen the two bolts that hold the caliper on and compress the piston with a C clamp or screw driver and replace with the new pads and tighten the scews.

Now if you are going to change the rotors it is another story if they are like the ones on mine.

You have to remove the caliper.
Loosen and remove the big nut.

On the back side of the rotor there are 4 bolts to remove.
Easier if you turn the wheel each way to get the bolts out.

There is also a wheel speed sensor that needs to be removed with an alen wrench. We disconnected the connector and pryed up the clips to make it easier to work with the wire.

You have to tap out the studs. We used a block of wood to not damage the threads and put them on the new rotor.

My rotor was not slotted and I looked at different ones at two auto parts stores but they were not Delco just a cheap one.

My truck also has huge drum breaks on the back.

Hope this helps.

same set up , just wondering if there is a better rotor out there other than the delco's..

i have heard of the cyro treated rotors but i'm not braking this truck like a SCCA car...

it's cheaper to replace than to have them turned..

Ok..Ok.....Here we go.....Replace the pads if you don't have a pulsation when braking. If you do have a pulsation replace the rotors......If you work at a GM dealership ....have a set of hub bearings complete with new rotors sitting in the shed out back!! Makes the job real easy. And damn were they expensive!! Not!!! :D

The drilled rotors will take more abuse before warping if that's been an issue. The factory pads are pretty good IMO.

I get the top of the line Carbon Metallic pads for all of my trucks from Napa. They are a charcoal color with gold flake to them. They are excellent pads.

I've got 92K on my 04 2500HD and the brakes pads aren't even 3/4's of the way worn out. I just had the rotors turned just to even them out. Chevy's 3/4 tons and 1 ton brakes are awesome...
