Problems leaving a diesel sit for long periods??
 

Not using the diesel Sub for business anymore.....it sits for a few weeks at a time......you guys ever run into any problems doing this type of thing.......??

No problem. I'm a farm kid, some of our equipment sat all year. The only thing that could happen is if you lose pressure off the injectors and get air in the lines you might have to bleed them. To do this you just crack the line one at a time at each injector and crank it over until fuel squirts out.

my truck sits for weeks at a time...no problems with it...though i would recomend keeping the tank full...i have to drain the filter more now..gets a little water in it...

None I have a old diesel blazer that doesn't crank sometimes for months and never hesitates

my LBZ will sit this winter unless my winter rat lets me down. I have asked myself the same questions. I don't see any issues unless you have wild temp swings (which we do here in NNY 25 miles from Canada)...

So, I see the primary defense as keeping the tank full right to the neck to avoid condensation. My building is bone dry that will help.

The problem with condensation in diesel fuel is algea. If your worried about it, or can't keep the tank full, consider adding a fungicide additive.

It seems much more likely that these diesel trucks sitting around from production to sale in all weather conditions with just a couple gallons in the tank would have a problem, which they don't

If your stuff is right...your ok...no leak down of fuel...or not much...good glow plugs and controller...new batteries...and if you have a plug in connection then plug it in day before or run it on a timer....I run everything on timers to start at 4 am off 8..lots of my stuff is older and it really helps alot ... it is still very good for them in cold climates...your going to have issues if your stuff is older...to many variables to fight...solar dash panels help also for stuff that sits 3 weeks!!

My 06 PSD sits for 4-5 weeks, and starts everytime. Then again, it's only got 3400 miles on it too. :eek:
But my old 96 7.3 PSD would also sit for weeks or a month or 2 without starting, and she would start right up.

My PSD sat for weeks at a time the past two winters and will again this year. The only thing I do is have a battery tender on the batteries to keep them up since I have PDL , etr radio , remote start , and alarm that all drain them while sitting. I plug in the block heater if I know I'm going to be using it.

The thing I would be concerned with is if you park it with summer blended fuel in it and it sits until it gets into the 20's or colder when you would need winter blended fuel it might not want to run when you need it. I would run the fuel out of it while its in the 30's and stastions are switching fuel and top it off with winter fuel,Smitty
