GM parts/dealers on the board?

I had some kind soul decide to punch out my outside mirror while I was parked at lunch today. I now need to find a replacement power folding heated with turn indicator outside drivers mirror for my 2005 Silverado Crew Cab 4x4. If any one could give me the part number and pricing I would appreciate it.

I also appear to need either a new steering coupler or a new steering box as there is a nice rattle in the steering, and I can shake the steering coupler and get the same rattle with plenty of visible movement. I can't tell for sure if it is the coupler moving on the steering box input shaft or the steering box input shaft or both. Anyone else had this problem with a 2 yr old 49,000 mile truck? Seems like it must have been bad from the start as that isn't very long for something to wear out.

Thanks - Greg

They must be pretty poor quality. Mine was already replaced almost exactly a year ago under warranty (looked up the old repair sheet last night, truck was only 9 onths old when they did the first one). Since the already relaced it once I think I should be able to get the to do it again.

Now if I can only find the part number for the mirror somewhere (my registration at the GM trucks forum isn't working).

Thanks - Greg

Greg...The steering shaft has a bulletin out on it. It has to be removed and greased with a special kit. Do them all the time. Is the truck still under warranty? If you want PM me your vin# and I'll get you a price on the mirror. I work at a GMC dealership. :D

Re: GM parts/dealers on the board?

I got the mirror info courtesy of another member and was able to get it at wholesale (the dealer is a sponsor of our Corvette club which helped). I replaced it Saturday, it's the first well engineered part I've foundon the truck, so it was probably deigned by a suppler (EWG). I was wondering if there is any way to use my GM supplier discount for parts as well as cars.

The steering coupler was replaced just over a year ago under warranty, but the truck is out of warranty now. I havn't called the dealer to see if they will replace it again as an extension of an earlier in-warranty problem as I've been on travel and haven't had a time when I could bring it in yet.

Thanks - Greg

Replacing the shaft won't fix the problem permanently....neither will the lube kit. But the lube kit is alot cheaper and only takes 10 minutes to do. :D

How big a pain is it to swap the shaft? Borgeson makes a heavy duty replacement shaft. If "I" have to fix it (or pay for it) I'll probably use theirs as al their other stuff I've used is very good qualiy.

The new bulletin from GM as of the beginning of the month is to disconnect the shaft from the lower shaft under the hood and push the shaft in towards the firewall a few times to evenly distribute the grease inside the slip joint. It works and is real easy. But........it will be back
