Removing chrome

I've got a Roush F150 and the wheels are shot, chome flaking off etc, I'd like to have them stripped and painted, any idea how to remove the plating?

Try to find a local plating business and ask them if they will strip them for you. I believe it is an acid bath. I did some research on this a while back for a bumper ended up buying a painted one.

I don't know if "aircraft parts stripper" will take off chrome, but it will take off Powdercoating.

I would consult whomever might be able to do your chrome plating near you, and see who/what the suggest locally. Media/Baking Soda blasting may the best/safest way. Sandblasting will likely damage the wheels.

You may only have to give them a "once over" with Media/Baking Soda Blasting, enough to get them back to a smooth finish with some texture. Meaning, you might not have to go back to bare metal. Hence, if I were you, and chrome has become damaged on your wheels, I would look into Powercoating instead of paint, as its a stronger solution.

There are several Powdercoating specialists here on OSO, but they are all in the US. :(

ALL THAT said, you might be just better off buying new wheels. There are THOUSANDS available here in the US, but I don't know about over there.

Check this site. www.wheelpros.com
If you find something you like, the next thing will be to find a distributor who is willing to ship to you overseas.

I'm trying to avoid that, as the wheels have "Roush" cast into them, which I'd like to retain.
