Re: A Toyota Can Tow 10,000 Pounds?
I am on my third Dodge diesel. The first one was an automatic 2001 and although I never had any problems out of it, I wanted more than 4 gears. The last two have been 6-speed manuals and I love them. I like a manual transmission, and I don't think you can find a more reliable combination than a Cummins with a manual trans.
All trucks have their problems, just look at the 6.0 Powerstroke. Before you say anything, yes I have owned one, a 2005.
Toyota makes a great product. Yes, the 3.0 V6 engines did have a head gasket problem from 1988-1995, but they took care of them under warranty up to 100K miles. I had a 1993 4-runner that I had to have repaired due to this and even though it had 86k miles at the time, they took care of the repair at no cost to me. That was the only problem I ever had out of that truck. I can not say the same for some of the other trucks I have owned.
As far as the new Tundra is concerned, it is overbuilt for a 1/2 ton truck. One look at the brakes, frame, and other components make this pretty obvious. This was done to have a more competetive edge amongst the domestic trucks. That said, I would not puchase one for my towing duties since I normaly make several long trips per year and prefer the economy and longevity of a diesel over a gas truck. If I was only towing local a couple times a month, I might own one.
I do prefer to buy American, but GM, Ford, and Dodge better wake up. The imports are not messing around.
