GM Increase in Towing Numbers?

I was just at the Chevrolet site looking at the charts for towing and I noticed that they have rasied the Max trailer weight numbers comparing the same truck/engine configurations of the past.

I was disapointed that they dropped the 8.1 gas motor this year that use to have a Max Trailer Weight rating of 12000 lbs. with the 4.10 gears.

Now I see that they have increased the 6.0 gas motor numbers from around the 10,000 lb figure with 4.10 gears depending on which cab configuration you would get to 12000 lb. with the 3.73 gears in the 2007 models.

The diesel went from 12000 to 13000 Max Trailer Weight.

So what did they do to the 6.0 gas motor to make it tow 2000 more pounds and the duramax motor to tow 1000 more pounds?

The dealer told me that they up'ed the HP for the 6.0 to 385 if I remember right. I wish they would offer the 8.1 with the alliason tranny in the new ones.

I was looking at this a little more and find it odd that the numbers could increase so much.
I am going to screen capture from the GMC website along with the Chevrolet website.

This is the figures they use for the 2007 Classic Sierra.

So if I use an extended cab standard box 4x4 with the 6.0 GMC it use to tow 10,000lbs with 4.10 gears.

Now all of a sudden that GMC can tow 12,400lbs with the 4.10.

And they show the Chevy 2500HD towing the 12,400 with the 3.73 gears.

And now both the GMC and Chevy increased the capacity from 12,000 to 13,000 with the Duramax Diesel.

What changed to make these capacities go up so much?
