'04 F350 Superduty 6.0, good choice?
I am looking at an '04 F-350 4x4 Super duty. It has the Powerstroke 6.0, auto trans and is a 4x4 with dually's with the King Ranch package. The truck is a one-owner with 46K miles and is in like new condition. I am sure it will tow my 26' Scarab, but what about when I move to a larger boat like a 35' Scarab or Cafe Racer. Will this truck be able to handle it? How stout is the '04 Powerstroke engine? Thanks

I had an 04 Super Duty with a 6.0 and never had any real problems with it in the 18 months I owned it and I pulled a 292 Formula like it wasn't back there, now I've got a 27pc Formula and an 06 Super Duty with 6.0 still no problems except egr valve keeps setting off my check engine light(time to clean the egr valve).

I would say yes...nice truck and interior....duals....smart move ..they all have some issues..it seems like some guys have problems with the 6.0 and others don't.

I went to look at the F-350 KR w/the 6.0 engine yesterday. It was a real nice truck but upon further research I found several forums on the internet about this ford engine. Buying one of these trucks with the Powerstroke 6.0 appears to be very risky. With all of the problems described, one of these trucks could possibly see more time in the shop than out. Cost is enormus if the repair isn't covered under warranty. As much as I would like to get this truck I am going to pass. Below is a link to one of the forums I found, It is a site that has a lot of Ford Tech's involved and has many horror stories from techs and owners.

Makes some of boat stories seem tame.

Look at a used GM/Chev with the Duramax.
The Fords 6.0 run hot/cold. If you have a good one, your OK. but there are a lot of lemons/gremlins with these 6.0's more than with the GM' Duramax. The Allison tranny is awesome also.

To be fair an honest... I also noticed that there were a fair amount of happy Superduty 6.0 owners on that forum as well and Ford does have a about 2.5 million of these truck out there totin' the bale. I am just not a gambler.
The Duramax/Allison is next choice in the hunt.
Thanks

The 03's and early 04's were certainly problematic. But don't discount the entire lot. Especially by the time the 05's came out (with the re-designed front end) the trucks seem much better.
and with 2,500,000 trucks out there, a 0.01% dis-satisfaction percentage would make for 25,000 un-happy Ford owners.
