FORD 6.0 turbo diesel???

Hey guys I'm looking at a 03 350. But it has the 6.0ltr turbo diesel. I've heard they have problems. I need details. He replaced the turbo already. Thanks Scott

I moved this to the trucks section.

2003 through 2004-1/2 were the "troublesome years" for the 6.0L.
Beware.

Try and get an OASIS report for the truck. It should tell you all that's been done to it.

CigDaze is right - don't buy a used 6.0L without an OASIS report (internal Ford service history) and an extended warranty that covers engine & drivetrain. Trust me on this one - this issue hits very close to home!

I have an 03 6.0. it's had several EGR valves (I did the disconnect and the problem went away) and it had the injectors replaced. Otherwise no problems at 120K.

All of the 6.0's have a glow plug wiring harness issue on the passenger side. The heat gets to it after a while and it needs replaced- maybe every 80K.

Think it was you on my thread on my EGR valve problem awhile back. Did the disconnect hinted at in that thread (Thanks). Have not had any engine problems since and I'm at 180K+; around 9 trips Seattle to LA and back, plus for awhile weekly 3hr each way trips. Service manager at Ford said they have a new supposedly better EGR for them. I like being disconnected cause I'm evil!! :evilb:

Dont buy used Diesels without exstended warrenty.

Pwrbt33 03-14-2007 06:16 AM

I dont know if it is fact or not but a buddy of mine works on diesels and said that because the 6.0 liter has 10 head bolts they are having cylinder head gasket problems if you use the truck hard. He says also turbo , glow plug and exhaust getting into the cabin was all problems. Not a good engine he says. I believe they are even discontinuing this motor arent they? Now its a 6.4 or 6.8 or something? Twin turbo?
