08 F450
Anyone using a 08? 6.4. Aside from tailpipe fires what problems are you having? Fuel economy? Thanks
|
Just pulled a 44 MTI 2500 miles and it pulled great. Fuel mileage was an issue. With 4:88 gears I only got 6.4 mpg loaded and 9 empty. It may get a little better over time, but either way it needs more than a 38 gallon tank. For right now the ultra-low sulpher diesel can be a pain to find. I am sure in a few months everyone will have it.
The truck rides great(considering), the dash is layed out nice, the seats are comfortable, and a tight turning radius. The factory gps doesn't have much detail, but still works fine. |
We have a new F350 with 3.7 gears and the 6.4. It's awesome. Very responsive, extremely quiet and loaded with torque. Haven't checked the mileage yet.

Have a 450 ordered w/ a 4:30 gear. Also, if U have the 4:88, the engine is detuned a bit.

Another thing I noticed. The factory brake control is not good for electric over hydraulic brakes:rolleyes: It will work if you manually move the control, but not with the brake pedal.
I though something was odd, then looked in the manual, and it confirmed it. |
dont know if this will help out but I think all of the in dash ford controller have had trouble with the electric over hydraulic., I have been researching this because I am going to convert my surge to elec/hydraulic

BrakeRite claims thier e/h is compatialbe with the Ford controller.

If I had to pull 24,000lbs(which is what the F450 is rated to tow), I would go with the F650 and the Cummins/Allison powertrain.
