FORD or Duramax
382 newbie:
Look under the hood of a new 6.4. There are more hoses, connections, plumbing, etc than a new house.
Look under the hood of a Duramax, it is clean and simple in comparison.
Rule # 1 in Auto mechanics: The more complicated and more parts it has, it is more likely to break.
Also: given Fords really checkered record the first year with the 6.0 ( many requiered mutiple reflash, inector changes) I would be reluctant to buy one.
My $ .02 -flame away Ford lovers.

i have an 08 f250 KR crew cab that averages 10 mpg, i wish i would have kept my 06. My 06 with a a custom tuned SCT would get 19-20 mpg on the highway. I would hate to see what a f450 does. The 08's are nice but the mileage sucks. The top speed on a 450 is also 81. I opted to buy a 07 F350 in stead of an 08 to pull my new boat.
A 6.0 with a customed tuned SCT is the only way to roll. I dont think you will ever get around the DPF on the 08's.

I have the same set up. 07 F350 dually, MBRP turbo back into cool duals. AFE mega 2 intake and custom tuned SCT from Innovative Diesel. I have the 4.10 gears and at 75 on the high way I average 17.3, in town and pulling 10k or so I get always over 14. Very pleased. I also have a 06 Duramax and my buddy has an 08 F450. The f450 is awesome I have driven it a few times, BUT...with 4.88 gears milaege just sucks, but will tow 24k. There will always be some sacrifises. I would get an 08 or 09 but will get the 3.73 gears. These motors have more than enough torque, and by the time you enhance them they more than make up the difference for the higher gear ratio and getter better mileage with more power. I just wished the 250 and 350 turned as well as the 450. Jeff

Thanks for the input, I have a 06 F350 for my boat puller. I am looking to replace a '00 F350 service truck. I weigh 12000 all the time with a service body, tools and a 100 gal fuel tank. My '00 gets 12 mpg all the time all day long. I'm not sure I wanna give that up although it's 200K plus. Time to replace but with what? I need 184" C/A on a crew cab. No one makes this other than Ford. I can not find anyone in CA to strech the frame on a F-350. Liability ins rules our lives!

382Newbie,
Keep your 7.3. It is the easiest, low cost maintence diesel ever produced. All you need is 6 position chip from DP tuners or TSperformance. With my 01 7.3 thats was chipped i would 22 MPG running 70 mph.
Jassman,
Ive had all tunes from Elite, Innovative, DJ and Doug. By far Dougs tow tune is by far the best one out for a custom SCT setup. When you hit the tow/haul button the damn truck acts like it has a exhaust brake. YOU NEED ONE. You will be impressed with his files over Innovatives. Doug's customer service in my expierience is way better than Eric's.
