Kurt, do you ride a trials tire in the back? My buddy put one on my 300XC and swears by it. It does pretty well on rocky type terrain, however, when we were at Hatfield it was rainy and muddy. I wiped out 3 times but not sure if it was the tire or just me. Did real well on the rocky hill climbs. I wish I could ride every Sunday, at 32yrs old I just got my first bike this summer and really need to develop my riding habits.

No trials tires here, too muddy/greasy. I'm a bit of a tire Nazi and tried countless. My personal favorite for our riding is the Bridgstone M59 front, M404 rear. They stick real will and keep my face time on the forest floor to a minimum. Also a huge Scott's steering dampner fan. Must have IMO. Greatly reduces (or eliminates) arm pump and no more bars ripped from hands on sharp edged hidden rocks. Pays for itself in reduced hospital bills. lol

I still have my IT490 I bought new. Spent a couple of years racing (enduro) it in N Calif. It has a few stories to tell!

great thread, man I have had so many dirt bikes and street bikes over 50 years. Started out with a mini bike at 3 years old but as passenger in 1964, then in the early 70's raced Hodaka's and my favorite was a Hodaka Super Rat set up for Flat track racing.
At 14 my dad bought me a Honda 360 Street Bike and then moved up to a Honda 750 at around 17 years old. In the early 80's went back into Flat track racing around local states, got hurt gave that up but owned many of bikes through out. Currently own a 1979 Suzuki RM 250 and a couple of 80's TT dirt bikes and Street bikes, a 1986 Honda 700 Nighthawk, 1983 Yamaha 750 Midnight Maxim, 1989 Yamaha FJ 1200, 2006 Suzuki 1200 Bandit and a 2008 Yamaha 1000 FZ1. Really have no time for none of them plus its too darn hot to ride in the summer months here. |
Biggus you have the heyday of Motocross and dirt bikes. Remember Bultaco and the 360 ftat track bike. Man in the day that was my favorite. I see you have a Penton banner up to. Remember them to.

Thanks! The Bultaco Astro! That's a very collectable bike today. Years back, I had a Kenny Roberts framed Penton 250 Short Tracker. Been a Penton/KTM fan for years. |
How about Ossa, Can-Am, Harley Davidson dirt bikes, and it was VIVA MONTESA plus they had a lot of trials bikes. The good old days. Have no idea how old you are but it looks like you grew up with bikes like I did in 60's, 70's and 80's. Edit - I see how old you are now -
KR was the best in his day man he was good for Road racing and dirt tracking. I had a bunch of Hodaka's in the 60's and early 70's to. And Kawasaki Mean streak plus a bunch more bikes. I had one of those 1980 Honda factory 250 cc dirt track motors in one of my flat track bikes. Back then they were it. I was NOT factory Honda sponsored. |
Dang, we've got some good dirt bike knowledge on our boating site.
Looking for a street legal knobbie tire for the back of my KTM 525 EXC. Would like for it to still work well in mud and dirt. Any favorites? |
I would google it about the tires as some of the leading motorcycle magazines have done comparison tests I have not followed about motorcycles in the past 14 years.

dating myself, anyone remember c&j frames? Carlsbad raceway?

I'm jealous of those Ducati I've always wanted a street bike, but I just don't trust other drivers on the road.

Shot in the dark, but I am looking for an ATC 70 3-wheeler. If anyone runs across one in the Mid-Atlantic; please let me know.

Just found this thread. Cool to see other boaters interested in off-road. I currently have
04 KTM 525EXC with supermoto wheels, 09 KTM 250XC with 300 kit 11 KTM 300XC-W and a bunch of old bikes And in the fourwheeler dept, I have a bunch of TRX 450Rs, a Banshee, a Foreman, and couple of older bikes, The heat index is currently about 110 today, so I use the boat in the summer and everything else fall-spring. |
New to me:

It's officially a Poker Run Support Vehicle now. Although, I may need a bigger cooler. It's already hard to keep the front wheel on the ground. The Yeti-110 might need to go on a front rack. :drink: |
Prior to KR there was a factory Harley rider who may have been the best flat tracker ever, his name was Carrol Resweber. He was like a 4 time National champion and would have gotten more but was seriously injured in an event that ended his racing career. He regularly beat Bart Markel who was no slouch on the flat track either. Resweber became a mechanic on the Harley team when he stopped racing.

I see a lot of Polaris Predator's on Craigslist at pretty nice prices. Any feedback?
