Electric trailer brake in new Ford SD

Has anyone had any experience with the factory installed electric trailer brake in the 08 SD? Does it work well with the electric over hydrolic trailer brakes?

Thanks!

Doesn't work with Electic over Hydrolic, only all electric. If you hit the brakes pretty hard you will notice a little braking from the trailer. I was a little let down when we first found out.

It will work with electric over hydraulic, you need to install a brake module from carlisle. It is called a HBA-Cam controller will cost around $100.
I installed one on my manning trailer and it works like a dream and the factory brake controller is sweet.

Depends on the model of E/H actuator. BrakeRite tested theirs on the 05-07 & 08 models without any issues, per their tech support people.

Works well with my Ausco on my Extreme Trailer.

Where did you purchase it from. It sounds like you add this to your trailer, is that correct.

Yes I did add it to the trailer to make it work with the Ford controller. Follow the link above.

382 w brake rite

Works great with Tow Command. You will be really pleased with the way the trailer is controlled. As good as air brakes !! Mine will slide all the tires with the boat on the trailer if it is set too high !! Thats stopping power

382 Newbie Are you driving an 08 Ford? Are the brakes disc?

44MTI 04-03-2008 02:00 PM

I bought the unit in question and tried it on my 08' F450. Didn't help at all. Called the factory and they said ford and changed some things on the 08' from previous yrs and that they were working on it but no fix yet. I then found a local trailer supply company that was able to by pass PART of the factory unit and install ANOTHER controller. This works good and the factory unit isn't throwing any codes. However most places were of no help until I found this one.
Good Luck
Michael

I called Carlisle their Engineer told me theirs will not work with 08 Fords but they are working on it and Ford has not been helpful.

A Dexter Engineer told me theirs will work but you get codes that are not true. Ditto Ford's attitude

Titan (Brakerite) told me that theirs works great but needs a converter box for the 08.

My question to all was will they work twith 3 axels & disc brakes

The Brakerite was recommended by one of the distributers that advertises on OSO and I am leaning that way. Any other input would be appreciated.
