Florida trailer permits
 

A bunch of us are going from Texas to Destin, Fla for the poker run during the week of August 16th. Any definitive answer on needing the over length trailer permits for our boat trailers. I have heard several different answers in the past. Is it better to just get the Florida permit and be done with it. We will be hauling boats from 30' to 42'. Has anyone had experience with this?

Truck & trailer over 65' total length (tip to tip). You can complete an application on line with Florida DOT.

I'm right at 65' and completed the forms. They replied back that I did not need a permit. I printed that off along with the application I completed and put it in the truck just in case we were checked.

Several of my buddies going to the ASCS sprint car race at Southern Raceway - $2,000 to win,Milton, FL on 7/21 were stopped at the state line and sent back for being over 65' total with their race rigs.

I spoke to the Florida DOT on the phone. They said if you are under 65' you do not need a permit and over you need a 1 trip permit or a blanket permit which is good for a year. I am over the 65' limit so I guess I better get going with the blanket permit for the year. Not very expensive. Around $20 for the year.

Maybe they had a local buddy running in the race and figured they would help him out by keeping you guys out.

I just got my blanket Fla. permit in the mail yesterday

$20, piece of cake, 3 days to get it, they will fax you a temporary permit the same day if you ask, and mail you the original the next day.

good for 75ft x 9ft and BIG poundage :)

I measured the truck and trailer and I am right at 65' depending on how it is measured. I think I will get the blanket permit and be done with it. Thanks for all your help.
