I went from an 06 F-350 with 4:10 ratio to an 08 F-450 with the 4:30's. With the 06 I got about 10 towing and 14 unloaded, with the 08 I am getting 10 to 11 unloaded and I just got 9 towing back from the 1000 Islands Poker Run. Not too happy but not really a big money diffrence when you figure it out (towing). The rest of the truck makes up the diffrece from the 06. The turning and stopping are significantly better than the old style Superduty. Just my .02

www.innovativediesel.com speak with eric and or Ted. They can sell U exhaust to intakes... great service after the sale, as tunes improve, they will also send revisions that you can upload through your computer. Ive been using these guys for over 4 years, extremely satisfied. Jeff

[QUOTE=plumbers crack;2233061]I just test drove a 2008,and I decided the smell of new couldnt replace the reliability of old!2002 7.3[/QUOT
7.3 has given me over 250,000 miles of trouble free operation. I have the 4.10 and haul heavy all the time and get 10-11 MPG pulling and 15 MPG empty....not the best but hey the truck weigh 8000 lbs. Wish I could put th 7.3 in a 2008!

My other half and I were talking about this very same thing, the other day. They are getting a TON of these 450's in on trade due to millage problems, including one fleet that were setup for a commercial customer this way. I think one of her service managers drove one for a couple of days and said it was horrid on mileage. They are now sending them directly out to lanelogic without even putting them on the used lot.

Sorry new"b" here but check with gear vendor to see when they have one (overdrive unit) available - installed one on my uncles 2000 F450 with 4.88's and it dropped the 70mph rpm right at 400r's wich is a HUGE savings on fuel. He thrashes the **** out of this truck and the OD is holding up fine.

Also, Diablo will have their programmer out in less than a month, money well spent.

We have a 2004 F350 with larger tires and 4:10 gears. When we went to Richmond for the Jammin' run another friend with a 2008 F450 also trailered a 45 Sonic down. I averaged 14.3 mpg while he averaged 8-9 mpg. Since I drive mine on a daily basis the fuel economy difference would really make me think twice about buying a new truck.

I believe the 450 has a tow capacity of something like 22,000 lbs. Unless you are towing something truly enormous, the 350 should be plenty with slightly better milage.
