Caterpillar 7.2...
I've got an F-650 with the 7.2 Cat... Anybody out there have any experience with increasing the mileage with chips, fuel mixture, boost controllers, or whatever?

That's what she said!

Well just like with anything else it depends on what you want to do with the engine that matters most. If you increase horsepower the fuel mileage will fall off and vise versa! It all depends on what you want to do with it. Is it a C7 motor or a 3126?

I'm pretty sure it's a C7... It's a 2006 truck. It has the 300HP/800Ft-Lb tune on it... and that's plenty of power for the boat and for when I have to actually use it for work. My main focus would be to increase mileage, if possible.

Your motor should be a C7, if it is a 2006 it is ACERT technology. If you are still under warranty you need to check all of the guidlines before you do anything or it could void the warranty.

The only way to increase power and stay within the catapillar deal is to pay them to raise it. You can only go up to 330hp and for the 30 it may not be worth the money. write down your engine serial number and call cat and they will tell you what you can do

I CURENTLY OWN A 2007 F-650 CUSTOM LONG HAULER . ORDERD IT WITH A 300 CAT, 3500 6-SPEED, 4/11 REAR. BEFORE I ORDERD THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I DID NOT ORDER WITH 4/11 REAR THAT I WOULD BE LIMITED TO THE SPEED LIMITER BECOUSE ANY OTHER WOULD BE GOVERNED AT 60-70MPH. RECENTLY HAD IT SERVICED AND REPROGRAMED AT FORD AND NOW I HAVE EVERY THING I NEED TO HAUL. THEY WERE ABLE TO RELEASE ALL THE LIMITERS EXEPT THE RPM AT 2400. NOW ITS GREAT. HOPE THAT HELPS. This isn't intended to be funny...
Don't push down on the accellerator pedal as much. These electronic diesels are significantly more efficient than the original non-electronic 3116 of which they're based upon. In the 3126, the 190 horse motor had different componentry than the 325 horse motor. You needed to replace the pistons, turbo, balancer, fan, injectors & some other bits to go to 330. Now I believe it's just turbos & injectors to jump the entire range and just reflashes from 250HP up. Bottom line- you want the power, you have to feed the beast. Sort of in relation to this... The automakers are now considering putting gas-guzzling gauges in automobiles to illustrate in real-time when a driver is consuming excessive fuel. They theorize this will result in a 10% drop in fuel usage. What an epiphany! BMW has been putting theser gauges in their cars for more than a decade- nothing more than a manifold vacuum gauge. |
I have a tree position chip in my f650 with the c7 motor, it woke the truck up a great deal, but milage ahhh about the same!!

joke?NOPE ! JUST THE FACTS. NOT A BUNCH OF ENGINERING MUMBO JUMBO. HE ASKED A SIMPLE QUESTION . SDR JOHN, CHECK WITH YOUR CLOSSEST FORD OR CAT DEALER TO CHECK YOUR PERAMETERS IN YOUR ENGINE BEFORE YOU DUMP A LOT OF MONEY IN IT. I BELIEVE IT IS ALL READY IN YOUR C-7 ACCERT 300 CAT TO DO WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE IT TO DO,. IF NOT AT LEAST YOU TRIDE THAT FIRST. I DID AND HAPPY EVER SINCE. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks guys for all the input. :D
