and crap for gas mileage with the late models.

My '03 LB7 has 120k and ZERO problems. 18mpg around town. Keep the oil changed and replace the filter on the Allison every other oil change and you won't have a problem. 140k she's just broke in.

zero problems, yet The big problems don't start until later. The LB7 was suck a problem child that they put a longer warranty on them. Sad thing is that the injectors don't kick the bucket until closer to 200K miles, and that's about a $4,500 problem.

If you're looking for gas mileage, buy a Hyundai, although I seriously doubt your getting 18 around town. Maybe the DIC says that, but those things are way off.

Here are the differences in the LLY (04-06) and the LBZ (06-07.5) motors:

I dont have a diesel, but i have a 2001 GMC dually with the 8.1,
has 188000 miles on it and is a great truck, first set of rear brakes replaced at 185000, front still good, other than that changed the oil every 3000 miles and trans filters and fluid every 50 k and use amsoil. I would own a ford, especially with a 6.0.

Ken, you can go to the diesel place forum and have a VIN check performed. This will tell you everything dealer wise that has been performed. The case rub is a lube issue as well as clip. Easily handled. Injector issues were, on a high percentage, inadequate filter quality and change issue related. On an LB7 it's a pricey resolve, but what isn't? Anyone thinking any other of the big 3 is better is simply being foolish. They all have issues, all cars, trucks, all makes. Buy what you like, not everyone else.
