Interesting Trailer setup

I can only imagine this is an aftermarket mod. I thought I'd seen everything...

what a dumb ass .... wheels dont match .....

I bet that thing wears tires. Looks like it has a drive guard that they didn't know how open and they added another axle. Someone that would do that doesen't deserve a cig.

jayboat 10-28-2007 07:15 AM

Looks like it came off a u-haul car dolly.

Very custom trailer . Hope he doesn't need to stop in a hurry .

MacGyver 10-28-2007 08:18 AM

Probably pulling it with a Ford Ranger and needed to lighten the tongue weight

Chris Sunkin 10-28-2007 08:54 AM

I owned one of these exact trailers (without the mods of course) and it was under a 30 Velocity race boat. The rails ended right about where the right edge of the toolbox is. It appears that the extensions are a wider section.

Anyone notice the spare?

Boat is for sale on the LEOPA website.

spazboz 10-28-2007 10:19 AM

Nice

Looks like he stole that spare tire on there from my old Pontiac Grand AM!!!:p

Azz end of the Cig must weigh alot xtra, maybe the head holding tank is back there!!!!!

convincor253 10-28-2007 11:53 AM

I cannot imagine him making a sharp turn without rolling off the additional tire from the rim on the back. I have a hard enough time with my tri-axle trailer as it is. I have already replaced the back axles once. The front and rear tires just slide sideways and act like they want to roll off the rim when making a sharp turn.

it has to be a yard trailer

It's connected to a pickup truck. Every yard trailer I've ever seen has a single axle. Why would you want four?

Rob doesn't go very far, he only does it once in a while and he's really careful. ;)

Sydwayz 10-28-2007 10:33 PM

I'm gonna guess that the trailer was originally for a 35'-ish foot boat and included a full drive guard; and it now houses that 38. Hence, the boat had to be moved back on the trailer, and the tail was REALLY wagging the dog. Shade-tree engineer solution = another axle "way-back-'dere".

That almost looks like one I saw at Pier 75 this summer having work done on it. But the one I saw the guys at the marina said it one N/A motor and one blown motor, the guy left it in the water and it looked like sheit. But I never bothered to walk around to the back of it while it was there after I saw how bad the hull looked. Leopa add:

Trailer is a Baron. Early 80's vintage. Made for a 30' boat. Check out those 5-lug hubs.

i take care of 30 yard trailers and they all are double or triple axle. that one must have super bearings

pookie 10-29-2007 07:39 PM

Maybe he uses it just to pull in and out of the water on a crappy launch and doesn't want his surface drives to dig in.

monstermaker 11-11-2007 11:30 PM

I will say that it looks crappy with mismatched wheels on it, but at the risk of losing all credibility on here (since everyone else hates it) I don't see what's so terribly wrong with it. Yeah it'll scrub in turns, but it'll track great on the freeway, and more axles does mean better load capacity... I dunno guys, what's so terrible about it other than the shlocky mismatched execution?
