I think he is right. Sydwayz/Brian can chime in to confirm.

Go to the chevrolet website and do the "build your own" and see if a 2500 is listed. Last time I checked there was no 2500 but the 1500 was available with the 6.0 engine. As a former 1500 Avalacche owner, I can tell you I loved the truck, but towing was poor. I had to step up to a D-MAX to safely pull my 28' Check.

The only motor they put in the 2500 Avy was the 8.1L. Since they don't offer the 8.1L anymore, I'd bet the guy wasn't pulling your leg.

The 2500 Avalanche with the 8.1L was available as late as the 2006 MY. Since they went to the new body, they did briefly offer a 2500 version with a 6.0L, for 2007, but it was not as much of a brute as the original 2500 like I had (2002 model year). I would not be surprised if they discontinued the 2500 Avalanche all together. It was not a popular seller, and the newer iteration was pointless. I NEVER saw one on the road. I don't see it on the Chevrolet website, either.

Check out www.gmbuypower.com to see if you can find one out there somewhere as a leftover if you have to have the 2007 6.0L 2500. If you are towing more than 8000 lbs. total, just step up to the Diesel 2500HD.

www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com is the OSO of the Avalanche. They will have ALL of the answers.

You can pick up a used 2500 Avalanche with the 8.1L for in the teens. They were rated for 12K lbs. towing if set up right, and that 496 BBC is a beast in a relatively small truck.

The 2500 series truck in the Avalanche and Suburban were discontinued. They did make the 2500 in both the Avalanche and Suburban eraly 2007. I do have a 2007 Suburban 2500 in stock with 6.0L

I wish they would start making 2500 Suburban's with diesels again.

I have one of the last '06 2500 Avalanches that were left. it was right when gas started going through the roof, they about gave it away!!

Great truck and awesome towing. I doubt the 6.0 even comes close.

We were talking the other day ... a 2500 Avalanche with a Duramax would be sweet ....

Get a d-max, I got one this year after having an 04 2500 crewcab w/6.0, it was kind of like walking around for 3 years blind and one morning waking up with my site back. I only wish i would have done it sooner.
