The dealer is offering you good money at $42k but it also depends on the deal your getting on whatever your buying. Just make sure you getting the absolute best deal on whatever your buying before commiting to do the deal.
I took a second to run your Hummer SUT on the MMR, or Manheim Market Report. The MMR shows me what any vehicle is bringing at Manheim Dealer Only auto auctions anywhere in the nation.
Your SUT would bring at a Manheim dealer auction anywhere from $33k to $36k right now... Unfortunatley the bottom fell out of Hummers within the last 4 to 6 months, especially with gas over the $3 a gallon mark now...... Even the stupid (filthy) rich people dont want them anymore.... I was at the auction last week (Wednesday in Birmingham, AL & Thurs in Atlanta, GA) and it seems like they were literally giving away V8 SUV's.....seriously.
FYI....I always advise people that when shopping at a new car store to always negotiate the best cash deal for the vehicle you intend on buying. Dont alert the salesman that you have a trade in until after the best possible cash price has been offered to you. Once your comfortable that you have negotiated for the best price, then tell them you will be trading in your Hummer.
New car stores will put more money $42k into your Hummer which sounds like a good deal, but they are not putting $40k of real money in the truck. They would never stay in business giving you $40k for a truck they can buy at auction for $33k. They can make up the $9k difference in profit on the car your buying, factory to dealer incentives, and so on....
If you take my advise and get your cash price first, when you offer the trade the dealer wont even be close to $42k for the Hummer....At least you'll be dealing with "real money" and not inflated figures to get you to buy at a huge profit for the dealer while you take a $20k beating on your Hummer...

You know as well as the dealer. Right now SUV's are not getting nothing for them..UNFORTUNATELY. The wife just went from a Denali XL to a Navigator and they beotch slapped her on both ends. But that's what she wanted.
It all depends on what the auction is getting....they pull out the little SECRET book

Keep it the 20,000 beating will pay for gas. I payed mine off early and yes it is 80 bucks a week or 10 miles to the gallon but a nice ride. Oh ya I can drag it behind my motorhome and get 14 MPG.

Did you pay sticker for it? They are starting at 56-62K (MSRP) for 08 with zero percent financing. If you get 42K plus another 1k you are taking a 17K hit in 11 months but you should get to reuse the sales tax when you are trading it in (another $2580 so your hit is about 14.4K real money) Seems a $1310 a month in depreciation is about right for a Hummer.

Sell that baby for $42 or keep it and drive it...lol.....Your probobly right the 6 that sold in that $$$ range on MMR were lease returns which ALWAYS fetch more than trade in's or repo's. I tend to think the vehicle that bring that much more are also Bling'ed out with TV's, big chrome aftermarket wheels and so on...I searched by region too....not a national search....
I recently took a beating on a 06 H3 that my wife HAD TO HAVE....bought it at the Adesa Auction here in B'ham, she drove it for 2 months.....and back to the auction the H3 went...I got off lucky and took a $1500 beating which is still less than 2 months of car paymnents....lol
