Gmc 2500hd Looking For Tires....

Hello everyone,

I own a 2005 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab, and the original tires that came on the truck are getting tired. I would like to replace them with the original size (245 75 15"rim), or maybe one size larger (265). The tires that came with the truck have always been traction challenged in the rain and snow, but have gave me good mileage and ride on the freeway. They currently have 50000 miles on them.

Any suggestions on which brand/model to replace the old tires with?

Thanks

Are you sure that your wheels are 15 inch, and not 16????

I have the same truck (03)with 105K on it and just put my second set of MIchelin LTX's on the truck. They ride great and I have been thrilled with the performance/ longevity. I moved up to a 265-75 and the truck came with 16's not 15s.

265/75-16s is what you want. BFG all terrain. There isn't a better tire out there.

265/75R16 Michelin LTX M/S 10 ply would be my first choice if money isn't a problem, other than that Nitto/Toyo A/T's would be my second choice and BFG A/T's would be my third.

This is just a personal opinion/observation.

I went with the Firestone Destination A/T's LT285/75/16 on my 2006 2500HD and really like the ride, wear and road noise level. I can,t speak for traction in the bad weater since my truck only see's sunshine and nice weather, but friends that referred me to that tire drive there trucks all year and are very happy with them. You can't go wrong with the Michelin's but you pay for them.

I got an entire 20k miles out of the Nittos on the same truck.

If you are bargain shopping I really liked my Generals I put on the same truck.

Michelins hands down the best if price is no object.

And when I took the Toyo A/Ts off of my F350 at 10,000 miles to go to the 19.5s they looked brand new. Go figure. and I've got a survey company that we use the Nittos on and even with gross neglect they are getting the far side of 30,000 miles on them, but then again, they are damn near half the price of the Michelins.

Tires

Stick with the Michelin LTX M/S 10 ply. They are the best tire for traction snow rain or a wet ramp. Have run this same tire on 3 different trucks pulling my 38' powerquest. Just got my new 08 GMC 2500HD and pickup my new wheels and tires today. Couldn't stand the BF Goodrich that came on the truck. Felt like the truck had over steer going into the corners. Will let you know outcome Friday of this week after the son and I mount them. Waiting on lug nuts as I type.
