Tow truck? GMC 2500, Ford 250, Dodge 2500
 

Any input and opinions on these?
GMC/Chevy 2500?
Ford 250?
Dodge Ram 2500?
Looking to get a 2006-07 4WD truck. Gas.

I happen to be partial to Ford, best suspension and comfort, I was not impressed with the Chevy HD suspension and the dodge interior, Dodge is also known for front end issues, Ford too if things are not maintained well, if you go diesel the Cummins is hard to beat though even though I love my Fords, I do however have a F250 Super Duty.

Ford owns 70+% of the commercial fleet market. GM has about 25% and Dodge about 5%. Whatever that tells you.

Does it? Because, other companies outright refuse sales to fleets (taxi cabs, rental companies) on account of what it does to their used car market.
Honda is one of them, you'll never see a Honda rental. Makes sense to me.

I have had 2 Cummins powered trucks, both of them were never short on power and NEVER left me stranded. I will admit, they are short on interior compared to Ford. But, anyone who isn't wise to the 6.0 fiasco must have been living under a rock the past few years.

Check around, you will hear FAR less complaints with 5.9 owners than any other diesel powered truck out there. In short, it is the only true medium duty power plant, period. I can't speak for the new 6.7's, no first hand experience.

THanks... but I would like to know and hear some reasons. Towing capacity, ride, engine size/HP. etc. Thx.. ( like Runnin's note) BTW.. Runnin, that's tank. I just need a truck.. :)

My customers are fleet operators in about 80% of the time. They tell me they buy Fords because they tend to be more relible, more durable and are easier to repair. Also they say Ford services them better- Ford is more serious about their fleet business.

To the individual, maybe it makes less of a difference. Firsm Ford isn't going to give a $hit about you- they'll blow a guy who buys a couple hundred units a year though. Second, they all have issues, they'll all break and so on. Ford isn't going to help you any better than GM will in this instance either- unless you give them the units. I'm pretty much a GM guy bit in the last 20 years, have bought Ford light-duty trucks. My own personal opinion is they ride better, I have fewer issues than I did with the GM trucks and frankly I like the way they look way better than the GM.

Buy what you like, buy what you can get a good deal on.

P.S. I hear the Dodges are loud- never much of a chrysler fan anyway.

Is there a particular reason you're looking at gas trucks in this range? I'm guessing the price difference between a new gas and a new diesel. I would look for an older diesel in the same price range if that's the issue.

Diesel Cons:
higher initial investment
more expensive maintenance (3-4 gallon oil changes)

Diesel Pros:
better mileage
higher resale
more power
never having to worry that your tow vehicle will keep you from fulfilling your desire to quench twofootitis
