International CXT's

How bad do they ride? anybody compaire it to a sportchassis or?

bgchuby01 01-04-2008 02:25 PM

like a cement truck because of the 4 x 4

bgchuby01 01-04-2008 02:26 PM

the ride of either a sportchassis or a peterbilt is like driving a caddy down the freeway at 80mph on a smooth road

Chris Sunkin 01-04-2008 02:27 PM

The CXT is definitely stiffer. Internationals in general don't ride all that well- compared to a FL or Pete.

Also when an Int breaks down most of the parts are Int only so you have to go to one of there dealers. with a pete and freightliner any heavy duty truck parts place can help you.

OSO member CBEASTWOOD has one. He can give you first hand experience.

In my opinion, the Pete 330 isn't that smooth or quiet. The best Peterbilt for smooth, quiet ride is the 387 but it is a lot of overkill if it is just to be used for boat hauling. Both medium Internationals ride terrible.

Chris Sunkin 01-05-2008 11:58 AM

None of the mediums compare to an over-the-road tractor. Mediums are engineered for local delivery, not long highway runs. You can do many things to them but underneath they'll always be mediums. The Pete is definitely the best constructed and most durable of the bunch.

fountain 47 If you live in a major city and I am there I would love to take you for a ride and prove you wrong. Most 330's are made for city driving but if you spec the chassis right and build the conversion right you can't beat it. And if you get into a fender bender I would rather be in my 330 than any one ton.If you look at most US City fleets they use Internationals since they are a fleet truck that is cheap to buy, but that also makes it not stay together well either. Also Pete does not make a 387 anymore, the new version is a 384 ir a 386 of which I have a 384 coming off the pete line next week to go to the conversion shop. The cab of the 384/386 is the same as the 335. Its just the nose that is bigger to take the bigger motor. It is also the same cab for the traditional 379.

I don't know why they would quit making the 387. It is their best aerodynamic tractor with better visiblilty, sleeper configuration, safety, and economy than any of their traditional mediums or heavies. Maybe they think the 389 will fill the void but that thing is UGLY! I live near Chicago and would love to take a ride in that Pete.
