Freightliner Questions

Ok, I just got a 1998 Freightliner FL70. 5.9 Cummins Diesel, 5 speed, 70,000 miles, air brakes, 12' contractor body dump.

So guys tell me more about it. This is my first medium duty truck and need to know about it. So could you educate me?

Thanks,

Josh

Chris Sunkin is the guy that knows about these medium duty FL's. I'm surprised he hasn't responded

are you going to leave the bed on? keep as a work truck or convert it for pulling yoiur boat? I had a couple of these years ago in my fleet and the only thing I remember bad was at idle the engine vibrated a;pt amd tje braclets holding things on the engine would crack. Biggest thing is to keep the oil and fuel filters clean. Also with air brakes you must have an air brake endorsement on your DL.

Thanks guys, I was hoping chris would chime in too. He seems to have a vast knowledge in this area.

Bgchuby- I'm leaving the bed on there, infact that is why I bought the truck. I own a landscaping company and this will be perfect. I have checked with the NE state patrol and they told me that if it is under CDL limit (26,001 lbs) then you don't need a airbrake endorsement, but I will check again.

Thanks,

Josh

Josh, you bought a basic around town medium duty truck, Just keep it serviced and it should do you well. As I said earlier I had some problems with engine accesory mounts at idle but hopefully they have fixed those problems before yours was made. Your engine may be able to take some of the pickup truck upgrades but remember that if you do them you may lose some of the reliability of the motor. You should have low enough rear gears to keep you happy
