Chevy duramax help in the south.
I am in mobile Alabama.I have a 2005 2500 duramax.90,000 miles. It has not started 5 times so far. the fuel filter n oil filter where changed 1000 miles ago.when it won't start I go n prme n bleed the fuel filter n see if there is any water in the filter. It seems to me that it loses fuel pressure wheni'm priming it.1 time it will start and another time it won't.My problem is I have a power on it and the dealers here will not work with me on it and look away if it is under warrenty.
Is there anyne around from Mobile to New Orleans with any connections.email me please or call 540-400-5536.Thanks in advance. |
I know it's not in Mobile but I do have a friend in Montgomery that may be able to help you. Give me a PM if you're interested and I can get you his info.

Do you by chance have a remote start on the truck? Buddy had starting issues on his and turned out to be the remote start system. Guess theres a modual on the systems that need to be folled to thinking theres a key in the ignition....problem is the modual fools with the factory systems sometimes....no codes or anything to tell you whats going on....

any codes Rich?

Your loosing prime in the fuel system. Check the oring on the fuel filter, probably installed dry or incorrectly. Change the fuel filter and install correctly. Check the water in fuel sensor after that on the bottom.
If none of the above, trace the fuel lines the whole way and look for a loose/seeping connection. |
I have 06 Duramax, changed the fuel filter, used a WIX and its not the same as before. It takes longer to start, Dealer told me to stick with AC/Delco to avoid the problem. The WIX filter has a problem with the seal... letting air in the fuel line.

Dieselplace site sucks.I left there a couple years ago because it wouldn't let me back in on new pc.It sends me a new password and then says wrong password.I registered again with new name and sends me another password and still can't get in.

I would pull the filter and check the o-rings at the top of the filter and where the water sensor screws into the bottom of the filter. Also make sure air isn't sucking in through the water drain in the bottom of the water sensor. Also check the plastic vent screw that you loosen to prime the system. Just barely crack it when you pump the system up. Once you get no more air bubbles and just straight diesel out from around that screw tighten it down and continue to pump until you can no longer depress the primer. |
When you say look the other way do you mean cover it? I would ask the service manager to at least do a diagnostics and then go from there; offer to pay him for his time. If they do not comply break out the 800 number from your owners manual and call the GM number. Aftermarket mods and dealers can be a hard road. Good luck.
Keep us posted. Jim |

Keep us posted. Jim That's the main reason I have left our 2006 F-350 P/S STOCK, so there is no questions about warranty issues. Rick, Sounds like you do have a leak in the fuel system. There are no signs of fuel leakage on the ground, or on the engine? Dean |
I got no problems with 'em

good for you, seriously. All I know is when I bought our truck, new in 12/05, I went to the service manager @ the dealership, and asked about installing a cold air intake with filter, and how it MIGHT affect our warranty, and he told me flat out, that Ford COULD deny any warranty claim we could have with the truck engine. Could being the key word here. I know alot of it has to do with how your dealer handles the warranty claim on modified engines, but I've been with the same dealer for 15 years, and they have taken care of any/all issues I've had my both of your trucks, no questions asked. Besides, if I want to go fast, I just drive the wife's XK8.:D Dean |
Rich are you sure that the fuel pump isn't stalling? Can you hear it running?
|
I got a dealer to look at it without saying anything about the power chip unless it is the problem.I have to wait till tomorrow morning for him to look at it so we'll see. There are no leaks.I'm not sure about the fuel pump no working will go out and listen. Thanks again for all the info.
|
Best thing to do is take out all power mods while under warranty. Even if a dealer is cool with fixing one problem, as soon as they put a note on your vin that there was a chip, thats it. Put the stuff back in (in the parking lot even :) ) after you pick up the truck from service.
Now, as always performance mods are done at your own risk. If they pull off a head, they can tell by the burn pattern it was chipped. I prefer to be safe, and pull all mods out (thus I choose mods wisely while under warranty). An exhaust should not void warranty (except on 08 and newer with DPF). However, and intake could. If it is a crappy intake (and most of them are worse than stock, esp on new duramax) it might not filter as well and cause engine trouble. I agree that the manufacture should not be liable for that. Simple fix.. put stock back on before going back to dealer. |
Check The Injector Connectors, the Come Loose
|
Hey Rich...have you ever had injectors done?
|
hey rich.. check the bleeder screw on top of the filter housing seen a few that have been over tightend and cracked. also seen the filter housing plunger allow air in the system.also check the the two big connectors by the upper rad hose for backed out terminals.
|
Rich, did you get a chance to check what we talked about on the fix. Later JJ
|
Any news Rich? Are stuck somewhere?
|
Have the Stealer do an injector flush while you are there, it is cheap and the difference can be amazing.
|
We flush gas injectors.....replace diesel injectors. The early duramax injectors had cracking problems:hitfan:
|
05's have a problem with the injectors i thank it is 2 and 7 the conector will come loose and not make contect you can tweek the pins in the connector and make them work for a while if that is it there as a tech bull. out for this problem
|
more than likely an air leak especially if it just happened after changing filter . it is a good idea to stick with ac delco on this item and make sure to lube orings before installing. you can also try to uninstall your programer or module and see what that does I have had a few in the shop where something has gone amiss in the programing .one that installs in line as opposed to a program that is downloaded into the system is more likely to cause issues

the only difference is the top insert that locats the filter media in the can, plastic vs metal. No performance or install advantage/disadvantage to either. The threads and o-ring seat are exactly the same as it is the same metal can.
all versions manufactured by Racor! GM just specs a metal insert/cap to locate the media. |

I stay with delco on the fuel filter also anything BUT a fram is a good rule.
