I Have A 01 Excursion 7.3 Rated @ 125oo... Why Is The F-250 And The F-350 Rated For More? I Was Told The Excursion Was The Same As The F-250......

It is the same frame and much the same suspension. However, your X weighs much more than a same sized 250/350 due to the extra body and interior components. These additional weights come out of the towing capacity and GVWR.

Just an FYI, but I think the highest an Excursion was ever rated by Ford was 11,000#, the F250 and single rear wheel F350 during those same years was 12,500#.

David Rabee Some states do issue blanket permits for oversize loads, however not every state does.
NY city is very difficult to get permits, NJ will give you permits but rare you can drive on turnpikes. Really depends on when and where.

Why do you ask?

The salesman told you? He'd probably tell you to tow with a VW Beetle if that's what he was selling! You CAN, and many DO tow over their rated limits, but it's a known fact that IF you do, and have an accident, your insurance co has an easy out to not pay...... Go ahead, risk it. Not me......

Hey CAT ! Why do you care ? The only experience you have with any towing scenario was when the repo company towed your car !
