Those ratings are BS, the salesmen told me he knows a guy that pulls twice what those ratings say because he has airbags with a chip/tuner and is extra careful. :hitfan:

I actually looked up my truck to see if the 12K I thought it could pull conventionally was correct and it was.

I figured it would be nice to have them in one place and easily accessible/searchable for us here on OSO.

I expect them to be copied to one of the other boating sites soon, but that's OK.

The prob is that for the vehicle in question, a 3500 gmc 4wd drw it says tbd the non wt dist hitch says 7500 it seems the truck is capable of much more. Same for an 08 f 450 non wd says 8k max diff than what many people think

The HITCH and the FACTORY HITCH might have different ratings. Most often, the hitch is less; and you will have to upgrade the hitch to match the truck's rating.

I don't know why the big three do this so often, but they do.

For example, the familiar Ford Factory "V5" Hitch is not what would qualify for a Class-V hitch.

While this is a good guide, it is nothing more than a guide. It suggest that a 2001 GMC 3500 CC dually can tow 7.500lbs non WD, while a Ford F-350 CC dually can tow 13.000lbs wheter it it is conventional, WD, or fifth wheel. While this could be true, it just doesn't seem to add up for me...

So to re state my previous question based on gcwr the max trailer wt for an 08 gmc crewcab 4wd drw w /duramax is 15,900lbs the factory hitch says 7500 non wd 13 k wd . If i put a 16 k putnam hitch ball mount and ball would i be legal to tow 15,900 non wt dist ?

Dont forget that towing capacity also depends on axle ratios as well. I added almost 2000 lbs to my 08 ram 2500 just by getting a dif. axle ratio.
