I don't know that I recommend this, but I consulted a camper place when I was setting up my WD hitch when I had my last boat:

They said you can tilt the ball mount forward one or two clicks, to raise the WD bars' angle at the back end.

I like Chris' idea of a big chain over the ends of the pry-locks to keep them up.

i tilted the head back so i could lower the ends of the bars..if i tilted foward i would be raising them..

did some searching on the web and i am going to have to re-adjust the hitch head once the trailer is loaded to get the weight to the front wheels...seems that you want 1/3,1/3,1/3 on the complete unit.. so the the load is distributed throughout the entire truck&trailer..

chris' idea of the chain is great...i would have never thought of something sooo simple for added safety...although i did put little rubber caps on the u-bolts so my little girl doesn't cut her hand..

I guess I did not understand the problem, but just wanted to make sure you were aware that some folks tilt the ball for more bar adjustment.

I have this system too. I had similar trouble setting up but was closer to the 18 inches that you got the first time.

My problem is tight turns. The outside pops off the cam and the inside binds up. Straight line towing is a dream:rolleyes:

if the trailer frame was on 2 x 6 i would not have had the probelms setting this system up..

being 2 x 8 , that's where i lost my clearance..

seems that the best route is to have the coupler at the bottom of the trailer instead of the top to give optimum clearance...

I think if my trailer had a more broad vee in the frame, It would have operated corners more readily.

Never thought about separation. My brackets are mounted on the ends of a 20" piece of C-channel that's mounted across the top of the frame rails. it gives you that spread- but it pokes you in the leg... ouch.

yeah ,those guy's know there chit and apparently have been full circle with the DC set up...


i called reese and asked if a cam snaps - they said they will replace...i figure if i have to make a real tight corner ,i will just undo the bars...
