New Trailer
I am purchasing a new trailer this year for my 42' Fountain. I have narrowed my decision down to 4 trailer companies.
Steel: Manning Eagle Aluminum: Hi-tech All-American Trailer Mfg. They all are quoted with the same options and the aluminum are more expensive then the steel, but I can get custom paint and graphics on the Steel. Anyone have any opinions on the subject? Thanks! |
I think steel trailers are better but they don't like salt water.
If you intend to use it in salt water get an aluminum. |
Take a look at this thread before you purchase.
McClain is a small name out of TX, but they build an awesome trailer. Myco will also custom paint and put graphics on an aluminum trailer. But you pay dearly for it. |
Thanks for the info. I will check out McClain today. I decided to go aluminum. I also found out that Hi-tech is not welded, but bolt-on instead. I would rather have a welded aluminum trailer. I have narrowed it down to:
Eagle Manning All-American Pheonix McClain (Check it out today) Anymore info would help me out. |
I am sure you already know this, but expect to see some cracks develop in the welds on an aluminum trailer. I have seen many Myco aluminums and they all have done this. Not a big thing to have fixed, but it did have to be done.

Manning builds some very nice stuff. That would be my choice.

myco is a great trailer and has awesome customer service. i deal with all trailers from a maintenence standpoint and i perfer a myco seconded by eagle.

Do yourself a favor and go for the Myco. Several years back I went with a lower cost trailer and regretted it from the day I bought it. The Myco is really that much better.
I picked up my new Myco on the way home from Key West. |

I have a 1997 Myco tandem dually which looks and rides like new. I don't have much experience with other trailers except for smaller boats but my trailer is head and shoulders above anything with that many years and miles.

I'm not selling it. Just commenting on the trailer brand. I have my sport cruiser on it. Your boat would fit but it is a big trailer. The tandem dually rides great and has Goodyear commercial tires and Alcoa polished aluminum wheels which really hold up. Shogren had a yellow one for sale pretty cheap but I think it is steel. I've seen that trailer and it is excellent. They had everything from a 42 sonic to a 47 Fountain on it.
