Not an F250 but my first Excursion was gas. Towing 10K, it got about 6 mpg.

I had a 2000 F250 CC SB 4x4 with the v10- it did about 12mpg non-towing and about 6-7 towing a 28' Active Thunder.
Also had a 2001 F350 dually CC 4x4 with v10- never broke into double digits mpg without the boat on, and got the same as the F250 pulling the AT (no longer owned).
Replaced with diesel Excursion with 7.3, now get 19.8 non-towing, about 11-12 towing a 25' Formula SC.
The v10 is a great engine that's unbelievably smooth, however it doesn't stack up well against the torque of a diesel.

The best I've ever done with mine with cool air induct and programed has been 17.75 not towing with a feather foot on the peddel/ hauling my 271 formula and again feather foot has been 10.25 @ 65mph for both, BUT THEY ARE A BLAST TO DRIVE WHEN YOU FULLY OPEN UP THE THE PROGRAMER , TICKETS ARE SURE TO FALLOW ! :evilb: @ 6mpg with premium gas :ernaehrung004::ernaehrung004:

GET A 430 geared one and they get 14 towing a 29 fountain doing 80 on the highway

US1 Fountain 06-16-2008 10:03 PM

My '03 gets 11mpg non towing, and 7mpg towing my 32 Fountain.
It sounds bad, but when I think of the mpg my boat gets, I don't feel so bad. ;)

I am amazed at how the numbers are all over the scale on what you guys see on mileage.

My wife wanted an Excursion and bought one new in 2001 with the V10. I thought she was crazy but it has proven to be a really nice vehicle and the engine is smooth, powerful and so far trouble free. It only has 65K mile on it now at seven years old and the wife says she is never going to sell it.

I have driven it many times including towing our 272 Baja back when we had it down to Miami. The boat on the trailer with gear weighed just under 8000 Lbs and it handled it effortlessly and got a true 10 MPG at highway speed.

Without a load the thing us a ticket magnet. It really does not like to run at 70 MPH and if you don't set the cruise you will find yourself at 80 to 85 MPH easy and it has plently left.

We took a trip a couple of years back to Ohio and I manually calculated the mileage. Running up I-77 with four people of our luggage at the speed limit we got 15.8 MPG which is the best ever that we have seen. Around town the wife usually see around 12 to 13 MPG and I have never seen less then 9 MPG.

I have a customer with two Ford vans both with the V-10 and they tow large enclosed trailers with tools and have the vans loaded also and one of their vans now has 300,000 miles on it and is still going. The engine in my opinion is great and really proven by the RV industry. If towing under 10,000 lbs I say go for it, but anything over that and I like the diesel better.

If you're posting this because you're thinking of buying one to tow a decent sized boat (8000+), get the 4.10s. I have an '08 V10 with the 4.10 and 34" tires and love it. It pulls my 33' PowerPlay well, but I wouldn't want to pull more than that. However, it'll dog on the highway a bit, my diesel did better on the highway, same everywhere else. I get 10.7 combined and I have no idea about trailering because I don't pull it far enough, mostly local stuff.

I have an 01' Crew Cab V-10 4x4, and got the best fuel economy I've ever had with it last week. Our roll-off truck can only go 53 mph wide opem. and I had to follow it for 300 miles. 16.9MPG!!! Normally app. 12mpg. Pulling a 311 formula about 7.8, but I don't pull over 60-65 mph.
