Well my 03 CC 2500 DD/Ally hasn't been so trouble free........Just had to put a set of batteries in it last week at 120K miles! Dealer changed the first set at 75K under warranty but I had to eat this set. Water pump let go at 106K......this truck is awesome! :D

Original brakes at 120K, with only fluid/tire changes being the maintenance. Truck is bone stock, no mods/chips/exhaust. If I want to go fast I will buy a fast car, not interested in a heavy truck that runs the 1/4 in 12 flat........

Actually Mike I read an article on idling diesels can knock the MPG's down significantly. My 03 DD gets 13's all day long but I am famous for leaving it running, particularly if I can see it from where I will be. It is hot in S. FL and I am in/out of the truck all day long so if I am only out of the truck for 5 mins/just a few feet away I leave it running with the a/c cranking.

Best I have ever gotten was 17 mpg, empty (as in just picked it up new at the dealership) and drove it 500 miles all highway.

I hate to say it but Jimmy Carter was right. 55 MPH will give you a big boost in fuel economy. Especially considering that the unofficial speed limit South of the Mason-Dixon line is 85+, dropping 30 will save you big.

One of the things you will find on the diesel is, if you keep the RPM's under 2000 you will do alright on mileage. Once you go over 2000 it drops drastically. Also since this topic was brought up, you can't idle the new LMM late 07'-08' models like you could before. It will clog up the particulate filter in the exhaust. The owners manuel will ask you not to let it idle. I would have to check for sure but I have heard that the new engine will shut off automatically after so long. The computer on your truck will do what is called a regeneration every so many miles. That means it is cleaning out the particulate filter.
As you get more miles on the diesel, the mileage will improve.

I don't know with GM or Dodge, but with Ford others have including my friend who has a custom tune through SCT with I think Innovative?. He also has it so if he goes in for service can put the DPF back in Honestly the truck runs so much better, nevermind the increase in power and torque, but its so much smoother, no lag, lower egt's, and mileage shot way up. Went from 14-15 highway to about 19-20, and city mileage went from 10-11 to around 15. Regen sucks major donkey balls.

I love the new Big 3 diesels, but I would rather go with the previous models just so I didn't have to deal with that regen and dpf.
I thought it was Innovative but maybe thats who he used, I'll have to ask, dpf and regen = retarded hippie move, oh yeh real economical to the environment, all their doing is causing more people to buy more anyway since these new diesels guzzle like gassers.
