Trade value ---I don't think it's going to sell to well on my own.

Black 2002 Limited 4x4 V10. Every option. 80,020 miles. Great condition.

I have seen anywhere from $4,000 to $8,500 ($8,000 being the norm) and just can not believe it. Dealers keep telling me could have been worth $3,500.00 more just a few months ago. Last Ford dealer actually told me to wait a couple of months and let the general public get used to the high gas prices, and it's auction value may increase. There are some unreal deals out there, but I am just having a really hard time with these numbers.

I am in New England.

I have a hole lot full of suv's I can't get a bird to land on them much less a customer.

There isn't anything on the road that burns more gasoline than a V-10 Ex. That's not a popular thing these days. You're faced with either giving it away or sitting on it.

I'm keeping my eye out for a really clean '05 diesel with really low miles. It's getting close to time to retire the '03.

Oh I know I'm going to take a hit on it, just trying to see how much. It's my wife's car, and I just never keep a car past 75K, so it's bad combination of gas prices going through the roof.

I was trying to buy a 3/4 Ton Suburban that the dealer -the owner of the Chevy dealer- came out and said "I'm sorry, we can't honor the trade value we gave you ($11K) after checking around. Your truck is worth less than what we thought." He was sincere and shaking his head. He then pointed to a an entire portion of his lot that had new Tahoe's/Suburban's and said that he can't even give those trucks away because of the gas prices -not the price tags.

So any hard numbers from those in know would be appreciated.

I drove past a dealer that has a lit right next to the interstate. They had a 100' banner along the fence in front of a huge row of trucks and SUV's- 4' high letters...

"Someone PLEEEEASE buy these gas hogs- we're giving them away"

I think the market is day-by-day. The only way to set a price is to talk directly with a knowledgeable buyer or wholesaler that's at multiple auctions weekly. There should be a couple on here- but locale probably has lots to do with it.

You're best bet is probably going to try a sell it outright. As for trade in they are tough merchandise. Not many retail buyers looking for gas hogs, if you send one to the auction everyone walks off when it comes across the block. On trade I'd guess anywhere $3,500 to $5,000 depending on condition. this is from Manheim market report...this is what they sold for not what a book or someone said they were worth...dallas tx..2002 black 4x4 limited..$8500 with 96,000 miles sold on 6.18.08....san diego..$8500 with 60,000 miles on 6.4.08...albuque..$7,000 with 75,000 miles on 5.29.08...an average of all sold for week ending 6.22.08 is $7967 with 56,000 miles...$5311 with 112,000 miles and $2656 with 169,000 miles...keep in mind that the buyer still has to pay aution fees...shipping to get them back to the lot...and service and detail to get it ready for retail....hope this helps...

Thanks very much. It shows at least nobody has been lying to me. I think I heard the averagae auction value would have been around or just under $5K.

The stories some of these dealers are telling me about contractors coming in and trying to sell F350's they bought just 1 or 2 years ago are crazy. They are so upside down in the loans now.

just look on craigslist for what people are trying to dump. im looking for a early late 80s-mid 90s 1 ton dually & every other ad it seems is for a newer truck people want to get rid of.

It's unbelievable how the bottom has fallen out.

We have a 2001 with only 60K miles and I'm glad we don't have to sell it and don't want to sell it. They don't make them like that anymore.

I have a good friend with an 08 Checy 2500 Duramax with 55K miles and they offered him $21K on trade and the truck listed for $50K new. The same dealer took an 07 F450 loaded with 6.4 in on trade and only allowed $25K for it and the guy took it because he had so many problems with the truck.

It is crazy.

For you guys that are as old as I am you have to feel like we are back in 1976 all over again with fuel costs, emissions, converters, smog pumps etc. It will work out but it's going to be a while.
